yes it is a time travel movie, but I feel like this movie is about how it feels to live with mental illness. a lot of the characters in the movie are messed up and donnie's perspective seems gives a window into his own experience.

On the extended version of the film they recorded a commentary track of the director and Kevin Smith. It's so clear as the film progresses, and the director explains what he really wanted the film to be about, that Smith a) had no idea that was what the director intended b) is having his love of the film scrubbed away with each new "oh, I didn't get that from the (original) film".

If Donnie sends a plane engine back to the primary universe, that means there are now two plane engines in the primary universe. Why does that not throw the primary universe off balance? There is still a duplicate engine.

Exactly. Now there's a duplicate form of the same energy mass existing in the same dimension. Law of thermodynamics says something like you cannot create or destroy energy. With the same engine (same/more energy mass) existing simultaneously that throws off this physics law.

My question is how many times did Donnie try, it seems as though he’s tried a few times since we see him wake up on the mountain in the beginning. Also he’s been sleepwalking and we learn Donnie sleepwalking is him either talking to Frank or carrying out tasks. Seems as though his family knows he sleeps walks but can’t pinpoint why, manipulating him a little more each time to finally save the universe possibly.
