This is a classic view of Cajon Pass. UP 3018 was part of the original 1966 order and SP 9099 was from the April 1969 order and was not rebuilt. Things were rapidly changing for American railroads. Thank you for sharing.

This video from my observations was actually shot in 1984. One year before the SP merger with SF was denied & four years before Rio Grande merged with SP or more likely Rio Grande took over ownership of SP.

I love it when railroads were individuals. Cajon is great for watching trains when you're a trucker. I used to park at Cajon Station below the scales on layovers waiting to load instead of sitting in the truckstop in Ontario. Awesome look back, thank you !!🎉

Thanks, DeAnn. Great video. I did a google map on Cajon Pass and you are right about the curves. There are hardly any tangents more than a few hundred yards long!

Theres several on screen graphic inaccuracies, including the very first train which said UP 3018 was former CNW. This was a few years before the merger. 3018 seen on THIS video was an original UP SD40. At 10:30, the train between tunnels was on the North track which was built in 1913. The SOUTH track, which followed a different alignment between Cajon & Summit was laid out by the California Southern in 1885.
