Good Luck to the guy who takes on the Task of programming that lot into a controller ,ha ha. But seriously that is impressive
@RailfanJason8 жыл бұрын
haha... Thanks! Fortunately for him these have been acquired over a number of years, so they get done as we get them. But he gets a fair amount of service work on them. :D

@@RailfanJason are they all club owned or is it mixed. if mixed how do you keep track of who owns which. That must be worth close to $100,000, that's a lot of inventory, before counting the other rolling stock. That's what makes the hobby so expensive.
@RailfanJason5 жыл бұрын
@@easternwoods4378, the club only owns 3 locomotives. So yeah, all the units in here are owned by the members. It's not hard to keep track of who owns what, we all model different railroads and have our own areas to keep our power in.

Love seeing all the old fallen flags, I live within shouting distance of the old IC, CNW, and CGW mains, and have a soft spot for those railroads

Cool, the guy who owns them just recently started getting them. He had been CSX for the most part.

Absolutely awesome collection of amazing locomotives. Many clubs I imagine would envy the facilities that you have there and to have such an amazing layout. You have truly captured the atmosphere in your videography. Well done.
@RailfanJason8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! We are pretty fortunate with what we have, but then, we've been working on this layout and collection since May of 1990. So, in 26 years, we've acquired a lot. :D
@monacofederico8 жыл бұрын
how do you manage the engines and cars collection? is there a shared fund to buy stuff or each of the participants brings in his own stock
@RailfanJason8 жыл бұрын
All the locomotives are owned and managed by the individual club members. These are collections that have been growing over many years, decades in some cases.

Oh yeah, I heard about that. So hot they weren't allowing planes to land there. Our heat is different though, loads of humidity.

Only one airline captain refused to land - he thought his tires would pop! Methinks he's getting some retraining. All other ops were normal.

That was cool a lot of people don't know about the Utah Railway they had steamers and were 1 of the only railroads to have rsd alco units west of the mississippi then they had some SP and some BN 45s then some rebuilt sd40s they worked rt along side the Rio Grande throughout cenral Utah u should Google them and get some like that for your collection would b cool to c, otherwise was some cool stuff

@RailfanJason8 жыл бұрын
Well, all the Rio Grande units are mine, so asking really isn't an issue. I will see what I can do about that. Comes down to how well all the units run together. Speed matching may be required for some of them. I'll see what I can do though.

I just viewed this video and am really impressed with your video work. What a massive array of locomotives!! What can you tell me about the Rio Grande "SD30s". The Gp30 is my favorite diesel model and have begun to build some SD30s myself.
@RailfanJason7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The two SD30s are something I built because, like you, the GP30 is one of my all time favorites and I wanted some 6 axle counterparts. The first is the Tunnel Motor version, build on an Athearn SD40-2 chassis with the shell spliced together from two GP30s and a T-2 cooling section. The second is just 2 GP30 shells with the front and rear porches extended to fit a KATO SD45 chassis. People have built several other variations, SD30s built from SD35s, a high hood version, and even an SDP30. So I went the Dash 2 route and built these. However they have since been upgraded to Dash 3 specs (SD30T-3 and SD30-3). These units will eventually get repainted into my Kansas City Eastern RR. Just seems more logical to have fictional locomotives as a part of my fictional railroad.

@toriehelton29847 жыл бұрын
sorry to bother you about this is another question does it matter about the length about the train or is it the same with the track
@RailfanJason7 жыл бұрын
That's a very difficult question because there are so many things to take into consideration about train lengths. Model trains average 15-20 cars. Some of us can run 100+. Railroads run over 200 sometimes. Depends on the kind of train, how many cars are loaded or empty, all could be loaded, all could be empty. Passenger, mixed freight, double stack, coal, tankers, are there any grades, or is it all flat lands, how much power is available, and what horsepower they produce... the list is endless.

all that, and NO , NS, or Western Maryland???
@RailfanJason7 жыл бұрын
NS at 8:41. He's the only member of the club who has NS. No one has any WM. Wrong part of the country for that.
@toriehelton29847 жыл бұрын
how do you do that I have model trains my self can you give my some tips about the wiring and the length of the track that would you use for athearn
@RailfanJason7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by "length of track that I would use for Athearn." Track length doesn't matter. It can be as long or short as you want. The longer it is though, the more feeder wires you need. I would lay the track however you want, soldier all rail joints except where you need to insulate, then run a trunk line around the layout with at least 14 gauge stranded wire, then tap into that using your feeder wires that are then soldered to the rails.

@trainsfordays19658 жыл бұрын
+Railfan Jason uh no. 30s don't look like that...

The only locomotives in that time frame are GP30s and an SD35. I don't know what "G10" is that you are referring to.
@trainsfordays19658 жыл бұрын
+Railfan Jason I have a G10, I looks exactly like that! GP10 and SD35s don't look like that... it's the one with the weird top
@RailfanJason8 жыл бұрын
+Trainsfordays196 No, those are GP30s. EMD never produced a "G10." Illinois Central Gulf rebuilt some much older units and called them GP10s, but EMD never made any such locomotive called a "G10." Google it.
