Railfanning Behind the Scenes

Sometimes when filming trains, there are some risks and/or rewards in deciding what our day usually goes. However, in recent weeks, we've encountered a perfect example of what it's like when planned events can change in a matter of minutes. The original plan was to film trains in Pine Junction at Gary, Indiana on this hot summer day. However, things got interesting when we get word of unique one of a kind diesel locomotive leading a freight train which resulted in our production crew to quickly debrief and change up the plans to go attempt getting shots of this train. You and the crew did a quick turnaround in your railfanning activity at Pine Junction in Gary, Indiana when you found out that there was a patched Southern Pacific engine leading a Union Pacific manifest that was heading to Proviso Yard in Melrose Park, Illinois. I presume that you planted crew members along the Union Pacific mainline to capture the train at the various locations along the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision. There was no way that one person could leapfrog the train to catch it as the places that you did catch the train. It is interesting to me that there are still some patched Southern Pacific engines on the Union Pacific while all the Chicago& North Western engines have been repainted in Union Pacific colors.
