My dad was an engineer for the south shore for about 30 plus years he would get on Michigan city stop and ride all day back and forth from south bend to Chicago and take us with sometimes and let us honk the horn such good memories

Very early 1980s, my late wife & i went to Chicago for a weekend, one of the trains we rode on was the old orange CSS&SB cars. This was just as they were retiring them for the newer ones, and i managed to get some super 8 film of them at trackside and on that ride. We also took the IC electric, and the "EL".

What happened to the old railroad lines at Glen Park and other parts of Gary, Indiana 1970s, I enjoyed watching 👀 trains 🚆 back then 😀 😉 👍.

Wow! Thanks for the memories. I used to take the South Shore into Chicago on Saturdays to go to Allied Radio for ham radio parts. The trains looked different back then in the 1950s. Later on I worked as a crossing guard for the B&O and NYC in Whiting and also in the tower at Calumet Ave. It was a different world,

CSX has melodic air horns. Also surprised at the horns on the south shore. Sounds more like the horns on freight locomotives. Cool video.

I certainly also remember the horns on the Old North Shore Line cars. The speed of those trains was more than twice as fast as the South Shore Line cars. From Lake Bluff on northward towards Kenosha, Racine, and Milwaukee those trains would be running around 90 miles plus per hour. The North Shore Line was known as America's Fastest Interurban. That railroad is badly missed.

Go west on Brunswick Street from the SouthShore depot to the end of the road, then make a left down the dirt road to the crossing. Last time I was there though there was a whole bunch of trash and debris in the road making in impassable by car.
