I wish I was on those private cars, but at the time this was filmed I was only a year old… and plus the area where this video was filmed is now tunneled up for some reason…

I had a pretty bad experience last time I took a long distance train. It was the Southwest chief. On the way Back from LA half of the train got sick from some kind of poisoning had to deal with my dumb ass family and to top it off we missed are connection to flint cause the zephyr who was behind us had derailed. So 2 adults, 2 kids a toddler and baby crammed into a little car rental back to Flint. Not fun Can we say nightmare

Kankakee, Beaverville & Southern amazingly still operates the ex-Big Four from Lafayette to Kankakee. "Amazingly", because the James Whitcomb Riley(predecessor of the Cardinal and Hoosier State) was forced off of that routing in 1973 by the FRA because Penn Central had let the track get so bad. They rerouted onto the ex-PRR between Chicago and Indy(using the I&F branch seen in the first few minutes here) and THAT line got shut down by the FRA in 1974 as well, account that track conditions were so poor that it was declared unsafe to operate even at 10mph. The entire line...Chicago to Winnemac, onto the I&F down to Indy, then onto the line to Jeffersonville. All of it condemned until they repaired it.

Back in the day GTW would HIGHBALL through town at 60+ mph. 1 year the south holland police dept clocked them at 68 mph and they were fined ànd that is south park avenue

My hometown, my Mom & Dad worked for the Rock Island RR. He was a diesel locomotive mechanic. Tracks everywhere, sometimes we'd get penned in the city lol I always had to leave earlier for work in case a freight was coming through.

I had the privileged of viewing the inner workings of Lake St. Tower many years ago. It was an incredible feat of design and keeping it working for nearly 100 years if not more!
