As far as I know this is the only video on you-tube that has Baldwin Sharknose locomotives with sound. Great video.

Sounds to me like the soundtrack was applied over a silent film. Those sounds may be from the locomotives shown (maybe), but they sure aren't from the action shown.

@@alexclement7221 I disagree. Listen at the 3:39 mark. The camera is zoomed out as the locomotives pass under the bridge. The reverb from the engines exhaust bouncing off the bridge tells you it's real. Fun fact. Did you know D&H Shark 1206 was recently taken out of storage & sent to paint shop ? Yup. Good news for rail fans. God bless.

@@ModelingSteelinHO Yes but from 1:40 thru 1:57 the audio level does not change at all as the Sharks approach and pass. It could be a mixed bag of live sound and non-live sound shots. Regardless, I'm loving seeing actual video of the Sharks in action!

Your video has perhaps the best, most authentic recording of the engines, something that a lot of people, including myself have never heard. And you did this 40 years before the word "KZbin" would even be said!!

Love the Sharks! My first toy/model train at the age of 3 was a Tyco Sharknose painted as Rock Island (which I believe they never had, but hey it was Tyco and they were kind of known for that).

Aah, the Baldwin Sharknose diesel locomotives-HANDS DOWN the most BEAUTIFUL locomotives ever built. The prow is a stroke of genius. In fact, some other locomotives, and most over the road trucks, include this in their designs in some form today. If I were to design a locomotive, which I have made drawings, I would most definitely base it on a Baldwin Shark. I can’t say enough good things about these wonderful creatures.

Great video of one of my 3 most favorite Northeastern region railroads during the mid 1970’s. The Lehigh Valley where 7 members of my family worked for, the Erie Lackawanna where my late paternal grandfathers childhood friend worked for and the Delaware & Hudson are my most favorite Northeast region railroads.

Very good footage, Baldwin engine sound in the form of Belgian Cockerill locomotives (licenseholder for Baldwin engines) could be heard until 2003 in revenue service in Belgium, and with 5 or 6 from each of 2 different classes being preserved, most in operating condition, this little country must be Baldwin heaven. The engine used was an 608A engine, rated at 1750hp in class59 and 2150hp in class51, also a higher power rating than used in the US.

So awesome you have the original sound that’s so rare from this time period. That’s one disappointing thing about the emery gulash footage, while the footage is amazing the sound is dubbed over and is obviously not authentic. I’m definitely gonna buy some of your videos!
@JPMediaRR
@JPMediaRR 5 жыл бұрын
From my understanding, there were many instances where sound was recorded on site (on reel to reel audio tape) at the time Gulash was filming. The audio reels were numbered in sequence with the film reels. So, there was original audio, but it needed to be synced with the film in post. I believe some of the audio tapes were lost due to poor storage and/or low quality tape stock
