Train So Fast That The Bridge Bounces! 1st Train Was Flying! 2 Trains Speed Over Railroad Bridge, Speed Checked By Radar On Train With Union Pacific Railroad Locomotives & 2 More Fast Trains On Norfolk Southern New Castle Sub. These trains are in Somerville and New Miami, Ohio. This is between Hamilton and Camden, Ohio. Train horn salute came from the 2nd train which was heading to Gest Street Yard in Cincinnati, Ohio.
1st Train was going so fast that the bridge was bouncing up and down under it! I admit that I did not notice that until the video was up a couple of hours and comments kept pouring in about it. I don't know how I missed that when I was there but I was just focused on a good shot.
This is my first time to film trains in Somerville at the Somerville Community Church graveyard. The second train took several hours to get here due to an emergency stop near Camden. I heard it on 160.440 and when the conductor told the dispatcher that he had to walk the whole train I knew it was going to take a while but it took a lot longer than I thought it would.
After that I decided to leave and I got just a few miles up the track and noticed a train waiting in a siding for that train to pass. I went back to an interesting crossing and filmed it by the corn fields. Then I left again and when I got to New Miami I noticed a train coming off the CSX line and headed straight for me. I pulled over where an old trailer park had just been removed and filmed it. All together this video has 4 trains. Sup
Filmed in 1080p with 60fps on Friday November 4, 2022AD

The center bridge support, constructed of I-Beams, is acting as a fulcrum and allowing the bridge ends to move up and down. The concrete bridge abutments have settled by a few inches but the steel center support has not settled, resulting in the bridge's weight being transferred from one end to the other as a train moves over it. This could be remedied by inserting steel shims under the bridge beams where they rest on the concrete abutments.
@ckuehncnwhsyt
@ckuehncnwhsyt Жыл бұрын
Those "I-beams" are actually H-beams and in this application are referred to as "steel pilings." The longitudinal girders resting on the pier and the abutments are actual I-beams.

@@rael5469 Without being there to see it, I can't comment. From the video, I didn't see anything all that alarming. I'm sure the railroad's maintenance of way department is aware of it, is monitoring it and will do whatever is necessary if they feel it becomes a threat to operations or safety.

@@ckuehncnwhsyt The term WF (wide flange) beams has been used to designate all major beams since I entered the field in 1976, noted on drawings as "W". I've drawn thousands of them and are still designated as W. As you pointed out, H shapes are used as piles because of their square section. When I entered structural design, the AISC was already phasing out the "I" designation. I think it was replaced by the "S", but not sure as I've never used it. We had W, HP, S, M, C, WT, ST, MT, and TS along with the minor shapes. TS (tube steel) has been changed to HSS.

Lots of comments about the bridge "should" be reported, with no follow up if anyone actually did. So I contacted NS and forwarded the video to them. I know nothing about bridge stability and design, but I have never seen a bridge bounce like this. So if anyone actually did get an answer as to if this is the norm, let us all know. The train was moving, and so was the bridge. Great video! I was backing up watching it! 🙂

@@clee47ford That's not a derailment waiting to happen. How did you come up with that? Yes, it needs a little attention but it isn't anything that would cause a derailment. What is your track or bridge experience? There's nothing worse than someone saying something about things they know nothing about.
@ghoffmann821
@ghoffmann821 Жыл бұрын
@@coldblue9mm I've seen quite a few derailments, and I've got a hell of a lot of experience with structural steel and failure analysis. Ever heard of material fatigue? Are you assuming this has reached a static degradation point, and will not worsen? The only thing holding this span in place seems to be the rails themselves, and the center span, which can act not only as a fulcrum, as demonstrated in this video, but also as a pivot point, as the ends of the span do not appear to be mechanically connected to anything. To me, that's the definition of an accident waiting to happen.

That bridge reminds me of my uncles dairy farm when I was a kid in the Snowy Mountains, Australia. We were sitting on the bridge fishing. We hear Uncle Clarry yell "bullchase" to the dogs, and look up and see the huge bull roaring down from the top paddock, and he wants to cross the bridge to get to the cows in the top paddock on the other side. We jump in the creek, the bull hits the bridge full speed with a cattle dog swinging on it's tail, and the old wooden bridge starts bouncing like a trampoline. One of the most amazing things I've seen to this day. Glad I was sitting in the creek with the trout that I didn't catch.

Great video as always! Man, it felt like those trains were traveling around 50 or 60. Crazy that is only about 33 .

Whoa, that bridge does move a lot, I guess its the new flex bridge... I'd be a bit concerned. "No Left Turn" cause it would hurt, such a cool light !! You could hear the sound of that last train picking up speed... Neat !! 👍 Super Awesome Video !! 👍👍👍

I like the fast moving trains. The slow ones sometimes get kind of boring to watch.

Wow I couldn’t believe how that half of the bridge was moving up and down it’s not gonna last very long! I think the only thing holding that bridge up is the long rails but that was a war and the whole thing‘s gonna fall in before lol keep your eye on that bridge maybe check around every couple of weeks and see if you’re in the area, and see if the actual bridge itself with no trains on it has changed probably the spring time when the ground Soffer I don’t know. But wow wow that was scary😬 🤣🤣👏A chicken and a turkey! I remember as a kid on the farm, my dad would put too long framing nails into a stump and then put the turkey’s head between the nails and chop chop! The turkey would run around the yard for I don’t know how long, it was the scariest thing😵‍💫 🤔 I noticed that that powerline seems to run real low alongside the bridge in the railroad track. Lotta trains up here in Michigan, they run past a lot of the general motors and all the little second and third tier factories. There’s some right off 75 at 69. Also an airport not far! Wow it’s really amazing to watch trains go over bridges! To all bridges sink down when trains go over? This bridge here needs more support underneath specially with double Dekker’s going over top! Wow I had to shut it off for a second because I was worried about your safety in the video even though you’ve already recorded this! Lol you have a lot of nerve to stand so close to the trains being so big if a bridge ever gave away or something happened to attract that cause something to happen you’ll never run fast enough to keep from getting crushed by those train cars. It’s too dangerous and scary to be there close!😲

That advance signal past which train #4 (NS intermodal) booked should've been operational, by the looks of the powerline/meter box adjacent. Probably train-activated, I would've rechecked it to see if it was working, once the power was by it...

In my town, there is an old NYC bridge (tracks removed 1970s) by the cemetery of similar construction. When its very dry, and the creek is low, you can see the piles left over from an earlier wooden structure.

Great video. Love the hi-def. The way that bridge was rocking (more visible on 2nd train) it’s a good thing that something like UP 4014 didn’t go across it.
