My old stomping grounds... glad you caught most of these signals before they were upgraded. I was up there at Christmastime 2018... unfortunately the old WRRS cantilevers at Washington St are gone, plus the one's on Ash. :-( The rest of the "closed" crossings in this video... all of the signals are gone now. I noticed too in driving around for the brief time I was there that the traffic signals one block on either side of the tracks throughout downtown (along 2nd & 4th Streets) are now linked to the RR signals and give a delayed green to help clear traffic. They have signs posted at the intersections indicating this to traffic.

22:33 That looks kind of interesting, the leaning cantilever of Allen Street.

Hey look, the railroad crossings from 0:01 and 1:45 are next to each other. No wonder why I heard a same sounds from the bells to a different crossing location

22:33 I can’t imagine that cantilever is slanted because of the power lines up above.

Great video! Even had the crossings not been upgraded/closed, I doubt that many of these mechanical bells would still be there, as a good few were sounding like they were starting to get weak. Also, in the description, Union Street is at 17:07, not 15:27.

Tommy, sounds like a good video. Most crossings got upgraded. I may plan to go to Illinois in the future. Interesting that the crossing on S Grant Ave E has Dialight LEDs on your side on UP.

I have filmed the Jefferson St., South Grand Ave., Washington St., Carpenter St., and the North Grand Ave.. Railroad Crossings. It’s a shame to see the old Railroad Crossings come down

Mr. TommyBNSF, after seeing your railroad crossing videos, I want to go out and catch a ride on the Amtrak train. If I win the big jackpot one day, I will get me a passport and catch a train in Canada and visit the Canadian Rockies.🌚👤🎧

11:30 ok... Camera rules that must not be broken when filming trains: 1. Do not turn the camera off ONCE until the train is out of sight. 2. Focus the camera on the *train* and not and not ANYTHING else. 3. Not a word may be spoken while the camera is on. 4. Try to avoid obstructions or obvious items unrelated to what you are filming 5. Make sure the camera is on a tripod so it does not wobble.

1. I don't always have camera space to do that, but I usually try to. In this case, the train was going very slow and I was trying to cross the street. 2. I like to focus on railroad crossings as well. That's just my style. 3. I usually don't, only once a while 4. I usually try to. Some places it's tough to 5. I don't like filming trains with tripods. I like to pan the camera, and it's more difficult to do with tripods. With better stabilization on cameras nowadays, it's not so bad to hand hold videos. And don't try to say these rules must never be broken. I'm doing my own thing. If you want pure professional videos, then there's plenty of channels devoted to that.
