Haha, I wanted to quote that too. It's the first thing I learned when playing Cities: Skylines. Well.. the second thing. The first was: 'don't spend all your money at the start and forget to connect your power grid'. By the way, awesome guides/ideas/tips mr. Strictcoaster!

That's really good. Hopefully someone can create a mod for rail yards that have static cars sitting in the sidings so all the tracks aren't empty. Some container bases would look awesome next to the freight stations too.

I love these little design studies, especially this railway one. In a game that pays so much attention to detail, paying attention to the detail in your builds really brings out the best in the game. Seriously though, that music is starting to infiltrate my dreams. If I hear it loop one more time I'm going to choke someone.

When I made this video the game had just came out and there weren't that many custom assets or tools to create realistic looking rail infrastructure. Here's are some videos I made long after this one that tackle railway design: Arrowhead Junction: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmjPi6qYo5unerc Ocampo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoHZm5xroa6qpZY (in Spanish, with English subtitles) Also, my buddy Bsquikle made a great tutorial on how to create more advanced railyards: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5CveX1ojr6afLc You might also be interested in this railroad replacement mod kit assuming you are playing the PC version of the game: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1569088356 My videos in general are oriented around aesthetics and detailing of cities, if that's more your thing check out the playlist below for more tutorials: kzbin.info/aero/PLYTjyn6fVp5gT7EOsA3celBlCQZ4c1qe4

Just a small FYI that makes placing the stations even easier: You kan kinda see this in the video when he's placing the second freight station, but the distance between the road and the railroad track needs to be exactly six tiles. So you can just draw a road perpendicular to the track, and then go 90 degrees from that again after six tiles. Saves you from plopping the station twice :)

Thanks for the tips and it does look awesome. Subscribed. But I think the traffic will be a nightmare in a highly dense industrial zone with those crossings and roads.

I would have loved if you had gone more into best practices and tips for rail design. You almost touched on some of that when you mentioned that if a rail track curved too much it would slow it down, but I would have loved more; things like, is it possible to get trains to use alternate routes to avoid traffic, best ways to implement it in one’s city, and don’ts that lead to poor performance

You make we want to both start a new city and redesign the one I already have (still the first one since I bought the game...when it came out). The ideas that you present here are wonderful and truly thought-provoking. The approach I took initially has remained industrious and all about growth. But now, I have $6M in the bank and can afford a bit of negative monetary growth while I redesign my old city with the new ideas. (Such as finally implementing farms and not particularly needing a city full of Einsteins...and not developing everything to the edge of zone-able areas...spacing things out) What you're doing here is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That's what players need to do. To make it realistic and attention to details. Of all I am watching, no one makes it look realistic. They just build the roads and the buildings and that's it. In real life there's more parks behind buildings and parking lots. And no one seems to bother to make it more realistic.
