Spruce Pine is a neighboring town to us. You are at lower street. They had the most lovely shops there. We’ve never seen anything like this. I’m glad you are covering it. It seems people in the comments section understand this situation. We are still without power and water, and I still have yet to go into town. I love where I live so much. We will rebuild, nature will regrow, and we will do our best to heal.

Good Morning JLR and Magnolia. Thank you for continuing to cover this hard hit region. On top of the lack of fresh water, power, and supplies, they are now facing cold weather. The higher elevations in NC had snow last night. Many of these people are living in tents and I fear more deaths because of the drop in temperature. It is a heartbreaking situation.

I saw that some of the local churches, Moose Lodges and fire stations have received blankets, heaters, generators and clothes, thanks to many compassionate Americans. The devastation is great and so is the need. It will be for some time.

If you look on the walls where the drywall is that hasn't been cut off, that's the waterline. When drywall gets wet, it starts to soak it up, along with the insulation behind it. So, you have to cut up just past the "soak/wet" line, where it's dry. Where the drywall is cut, it doesn't mean that's the actual high waterline

Good morning. Thank you for covering this. I was to go see & work with my friend for the winter. She owns Asheville Glamping, near Marshall, Weaverville and NAVL. Her 1st text was telling me it was catastrophic. She’s now told me to stay away. They’re neighbors helping neighbors now. Please keep posting so we can get a view of the progress. So much devastation. Praying for all!

Thank you for coming to NC and showing our damage to the North Carolina mountains. I live close to Charlotte, about 2 hours to the mountains. It is really sad to see all the damage in our mountains. It has gotten cold here and even a few snow showers in our mountain community. It is unbelievable to see how high the storm surge really was. People and businesses have lost every single thing. We take for granted so much like just going to turn on a light switch or even go brush our teeth. It will take years to recover from all of this. Our mountain community depend alot on tourists. It is fall color season and so many businesses do not even have a business to open this year. I have not heard about the Christmas trees yet or even the pecans in Georgia, if there is even a pecan crop this year. I do not know about the ski season either. This is so heartbreaking...Thank you so much for coming to NC. Praying for our high country and the people in Florida and other states that had storm damage.

A comment about the railroad. Years ago in Nebraska we had a river flood miles from us that backed up all the creeks and Brooks nearby us. That water took out the railroad on the flat plains miles from the river. Hard to believe. It looked like a giant had been playing trains and just threw the tracks to the side any old which way. The ground got so saturated that when people tried to pump water out of their basements the pressure from the outside made the cellar walls collapse and some houses even fell in. It is amazing the power of water even on flat ground. Take care God bless
