I was told by an old railway worker, that the H.C. on a spike stood for "high carbon" and they were used specifically on railway corners and switch gear, for strength.

Shoo whee, I've been here for awhile. Remember at your old shop, you filled holes in the parking with clinker? New shop looks good. Your projects has inspired this old boy to pick a hammer and give it a go myself. Take care !

Still filling holes with clinker but the shop is way better. Keep on swinging!

Just received my purchase of the new meat turner and a horse head bottle opener. Great workmanship (can I say that) regardless, really pleased they, are real quality and arrived within just a couple of days after purchase. thanks Gary.

The amount you can draw out in one heat with the power hammer is incredible! I made myself a drawing out hammer out of a 2lb hammer from Amazon, turned it into a diagonal peen with very generous radiuses on the faces, and I can reasonably add maybe an inch of length per heat if I apply myself, focus, and don’t land any bad blows, working over the horn first, then switching to a flat face hammer and flat of the anvil to clean up and straighten. I find if I don’t clean up my hammer marks and straighten every heat, things get crooked and beat up and hard to clean up very quickly.

I got a meat turner at a city festival. It really is a good turner, better than tongs, spatula, and other BBQ "tools". I can use it with either hand. I can see why they would sell well!

Pretty neat stuff. Do you want some more spikes?
@garyhuston8 ай бұрын
Thanks Pete. I have a few spikes still but if these sell out as quick as the last lot I may need some more in the near future!

@@garyhuston I can watch your forging videos everyday. Totally jealous about the new shop w/ power hammer. I’m still messing around in my garage.

May I ask who makes your power hammer?
@garyhuston8 ай бұрын
I made it myself based on the Clay Spencer design but with a few alterations. There are a couple of videos on my channel about it.

Gary, what did you do to make it food safe ? What process do you use ?
@garyhuston8 ай бұрын
Oil it, it’s only mild steel it’s not toxic!🤣🤣

Did you build or buy that hammer Gary ?ps just realised i been here 10 years Oo pps weld a bar on the top of those adjustables and you got an adjustable 2 hand twisting tool was the second most used thing i owned when i was forging :-)

I built the hammer myself. Wish I had done it years ago! There are a couple of videos on my channel about it.
