Railroad Switching At Hanson Quarry. Rusty End Of Line Shoving Cars Over Odd Railroad Crossing That Flashes All The Time. Short Line RR Action On Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. This train is near Peebles, Ohio at Plum Run. Ex Norfolk & Western Railway signals are abandoned but still standing next to the crossing. Norfolk Southern leases this line to CCET. This is near the end of CCET track. There are just a few miles past here that are in service and they are used for railcar storage. There are very few videos of trains this far out on the line. This video takes over where the last video ended that showed them working the lumber siding in Peebles, Ohio. This video starts with the whole train going over a huge railroad bridge just so you can see the train in its entirety before they switched the two customers at the end of the line. The locomotives were split up and the train pulled over the siding. Part 2 showed the 2 locomotives take the 5 gons to Peebles and then return toward Plum Run. This video shows them splitting up the locomotives, cars and shoving the cars over the unique railroad crossing that always flashes. The run to this end of the line started on a Friday and ended on a Sunday. I had to split the Sunday video into 3 parts since there was so much footage. The locomotive with the yellow tape has front end damage due to hitting a tree on Thursday. Since the lights on the front of it didn't work you will notice the odd placement of the locomotives running cab to cab. Its easy to figure out what is going on if you watch all 3 parts in order and then pay close attention to the moves. Trains use 160.860 and there is no EOT. Parts 1,2 and 3 Filmed Sunday, July 10, 2022

Another intriguing video JT. As a former UK driver (engineer!) I am always noting what is the same in the US and what is different. I'm over 10 years retired and in my day we had no radios just an odd phone on a signal post, so it was all hand signals! No wonder you had to have 100% vision to be in an operating post. It's nice to hear the radio comms and see that they work as a team still. In the UK the only locos with bells were working in Docks in my time. The bell started with the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1825 as far as I know. It was dropped in favour of the steam whistle after the Leicester and Swannington Railway loco "Samson" was fitted with one called a "steam trumpet" a few years later. It's nice that in the US the Bell is still very much alive after almost 200 years!

@@beeble2003 That was how it was described in the local newspaper at the time! 1832 I believe. I have always thought that it was a lovely Victorian description of something that no one had ever seen before. At the time the Leicester and Swannington had the longest rail tunnel in the world at a few yards short of a mile. It was very narrow and there was a story that the loco "Samson" went into the tunnel with a very tall chimney and emerged from the other end without it! No one knows now if it's true or not but it's a good story. The Glenfield Tunnel is now a listed structure owned by the city and available to walk through at certain times. It was still in use until the late 1960's and one of the smoke vents was in one of my schoolfriends back garden. I now live in North Yorkshire UK and have views over the heritage steam railway in Grosmont. So I'm fortunate to see steam trains every day through April to October.

@@rodsmith3911 The chimney story sounds apocryphal but, as you say, it's a great story. I grew up in Yorkshire (now Essex) but only went to the NYMR a couple of times -- the KWVR was much closer to home.

When I was a kid I would ride my bike to the 35th street viaduct in Milwaukee where there was a panoramic view of the Milwaukee Road shops including 3 roundhouses and numerous yards. There was a bus stop shelter that you could stand under and lean over the railing and watch all the action. Sadly today the roundhouses are gone and only a portion of the yards is left and it's a part of town I don't visit unless I'm carrying heavy firepower. Excellent switching video, love watching the crews at work. Tnanks much!

Very interesting and enjoyable. Switching, or shunting as it is called in the UK, is one of the most fascinating of railway operations. It is also intriguing to note that the quarry is owned by Hanson, a British international conglomerate, which was founded in the town where I live in the UK so, for me, has a lot of local interest. Keep up the good work and please, think about wearing a sun hat in this heat. 👍

Thank you for documenting these switching moves at the quarry in Plum Run, Ohio, Jaw Tooth! It was interesting to see how the crew maneuvered the train and the engines around so that they would have the GP15-1available to connect to the gondolas that were to be delivered to the lumber company in Peebles, Ohio. We saw in Part 2 of this series of videos how the crew used the GP15-1 to place the gondolas on the siding in Peebles, Ohio because they did not want to use the heavier SD40-2 on that light rail siding. The light rail siding could be damaged by that weight of the SD40-2. The SD40-2 looks like it has a 4,000-gallon fuel tank. The SD40-2 could weigh up to 409,000 pounds vs the 246,000 pounds of the GP15-1.

A classic rural industrial grade Xing. Improvising the flashing red signal was a good idea as the track to the left is a blind spot and a heavy slow moving gravel truck could be a killer. Also great sound of the cars rolling thru the flanges and over the gravel on top of the rail turning it to powder. JT you could have been here in Milwaukee yesterday at the Red Bull Flugtag where teams pushed items with hopes of making then fly...You Chessie & Norfie could push a mockup CCET GP15 off the edge into the cool lake 30ft below

Great video and tutorial of the CET doing some big switching at Plum Run. I like those crossing lights even though they're from way back! Just being different makes them unique! Where are those Gons going to? Thanks again for sharing your videos with us along with your time and effort JT!

I like the "RUN" posted on the STOP gate - I say that means RUN across quickly before the gate completely closes! AND, there are those same RR tie cars at the end of the train again! You'd think they would have a siding somewhere to store those when not in use so they don't have to keep shuffling them around. I like those vertical warning lights - you don't see many of those...Didn't they see that big tree before they hit it?

I wondered about the word "run" built into one leaf of the gate... then I noticed the other gate leaf said "plum". So when closed it reads Plum Run. But I like your thought. If you don't run, you will look like a plum. 😅

You said they've got 3 or 4 more miles of track beyond there. A while back, the last time you did video that had to do with that place, I looked at it on the aerials on Google, and saw how far the track went, and wondered why it was not in use. I didn't think of storage. 3512 needs a red stripe to match 1657 🙂

ChainsawN&W1218, always like seeing a switching operation and hearing them couple up,I've filmed alot of those N&W color position light signals over the years, now most have been replaced with PTC modern signals 👍.

Well that explains the need for the acquisition of the newer CE locomotives. Could not have done all that maneuvering with the old fleet of Engines. Least it would have made things much more difficult and hard To schedule. Thanks for the information and I will keep on viewing! Jeff

They could have done that switching with steam engines, nothing difficult about a sunny afternoon dry perfect weather day…..and just as easily done with the ge’s…..tougher finding a good safe filming position than the switching this little shortline does that’s for sure……
