Trains Passing Over & Under At Trestle Twice & Kenova Fire Dept Emergency Response! P&L Locomotive

Best View Ever! Train Coming Straight At You Over A Giant Bridge While A Heavy CSX Coal Train Passes Under It! Then A LONG Norfolk Southern Coal Train With A DPU Pushing The Rear Passes Over The Bridge & Here Comes Another Locomotive Under It Straight At The Camera! Kenova Fire Department Does A Full Response To A Motor Vehicle Accident At The Interstate. Check Out The Orange Fire Truck! We Also Have A Big Mixed Freight With Double DPU Power In The Middle Working Hard On The Bridge. Finally, We See A Coal Train At Night At A Railroad Crossing.
The first train is a Norfolk Southern intermodal coming over the Ohio River and over Kenova. This is the best possible shot that you can get. Right as the train is passing over the CSX tracks, a HEAVY CSX coal train comes straight under the NS train and under me.
We take a good look at a dwarf signal next to a 4 track railroad crossing and check out a manual switch that is missing a lock. You can tell that a rail grinder has passed here recently. As I get up as high as I can we see a long coal train with a DPU on the rear crossing over the Bridge going into Ohio. All of a sudden a locomotive can be seen coming from the coal docks and going under the coal train. That was really cool!
Then we see the Kenova Volunteer Fire Department responding to an MVA out at the Interstate near town. I believe a semi was involved and a couple of vehicles went over the embankment. I heard them on 154.385 with a repeater. I love the orange fire truck. Have you ever seen an orange one? When I was a firefighter years ago we were one of the first departments to get lime yellow trucks. Notice the truck coming and going to the fire station. They needed kitty litter for the accident cleanup so it was going back and forth to the station to deliver it.
We also see a big mixed freight with double DPU action coming over the bridge and we see a CSX train at the railroad crossing with a Paducah & Louisville locomotive being transported. After that train we stopped in Ashland, Kentucky on the way home and you will see a CSX coal train passing by the flood wall.

Really cool "over-and-under" stuff, JT, but what really "stole the show" was the CSX Local led by the "long-hood-forward" Geep @20:35. Talk about "loving" the sound of the traditional mechanical crossing-gate bells...let's add that EMD accelerating along with the engineer's well-timed Nathan horn display, especially the loud "snap" (for the "dot") @20:56. It's all there, in one neat little "package", all these years later. BTW, that unit train of hoppers starting @24:05 is an excellent example of what trains sound like rolling over freshly-ground railheads...that "moaning" tone is unique to that setup. Great stuff, my friend...👌👍👍

@ Lake and Clinton, Ogilvie Train Station. Ogilvie’s tracks are above street level, so traffic runs under them, as well as set of tracks that eventually go sub-street to Union Station. On top of all of this runs the Green/Pink lines, which goes over Ogilvie’s yard. It’s pretty cool to watch the traffic during rush hours.

I talked to the wife, we are going to take a weekend trip to Kenova. Leave Franklin, stop at the Ponderosa in Hillsboro, spend the night in Ashland. Then on Saturday be in KENOVA for awhile, head on over to Huntington, may spend the night. Then cross the river into Ohio and run up 7 to 35 and back to Dayton, Ohio on Sunday!!

That sounds awesome! If you are staying in the motel with a view of the trains in Ashland, try to get the room that I had. It has the best view of the trains. I was in the front corner room. They are used to railfans so if you tell them that you want a view of the trains they will help you. I still haven't posted my video from the motel yet. I got Amtrak twice

Very cool catch on the N/S Intermodal & CSX coal train. That switch stand you pointed out I see was manufactured at Bethlehem Steel Frog and Switch Steelton Pa. Which was demolished in 1993.Very cool video.

The beginning of this video was interesting to watch with the over/under of Norfolk Southern intermodal train on the bridge and the loaded CSX coal train passing under the bridge at the same time. That was a convenient location that you found to capture these two trains. Then you also caught the empty Norfolk Southern coal train going over the bridge to Ohio with the lone Norfolk Southern locomotive going under the empty coal train. That was a long train going south over the bridge with the two Mid-train DPUs. The Paducah & Louisville that appeared at 21:10 was a surprise. You stop at Ashland; Kentucky provided us with the opportunity to see that CSX coal train. Was the coal train loaded or empty? I tried looking at the springs on the coal cars to see whether coal cars were loaded or empty, but they were not helpful t me. Thank you for documenting these trains on 30 January 2025, Jaw Tooth!
