Use your switch list. Once you deliver a car to its destination, we all know it lines through it. If you keep the car on the list, once it’s ready to move again (ie, it’s loaded/unloaded) the line goes away and the car is updated with its new destination. This makes it easy to see when cars are ready to go back to the interchange without having to physically move to each location or depot to check.

So i learned at the beginning you’ll want to rely on the mogul a lot.. the ten wheeler you get is honestly a bit less useful. (It has Lower water and coal capacity but better hauling. It can haul 900 pounds more than the mogul, but the mogul has more coal and water, which makes it ideal for longer distances) so the ten wheeler is better off with switching at the interchange and helping at the sawmill (the creek that provides lumber is thankfully not terribly far.) while the mogul handles your mainline trains until you get a newer engine or get to bryson. (That way you can have the ten wheeler act as station pilot) (I use mixed trains since i dont have enough coaches or people for a dedicated express/passenger service. Plus it kills two birds with one stone.) always remember to conserve steam when you coast down a hill too. That does you a huge favor on water remember to fill whenever you see a column. Along with coal. Keep those hoppers loaded.)

Set your time to 1:1 more time is more money! And more time allows for more logs, more passengers which helps early. On loans; if you can pay before the interest is due you’re just pre-spending which can get you out of a bind if you extended a bit too far and need an extra engine.

L1 at Connelly is actually not a great choice to start with, due to the 8 starting cars. L1 is short so you'd have to split the consist and load 4 at a time. Much easier to drive farther down to L2 which can hold 8 cars. L1 is good for expanding log service, buy 4 extra cars and drop them off at L1 on the way to L2 with the other 8. Also, the saw mill can accommodate 12 cars at once, though you will need to manually push them to the end of the line to get the 12th to fit as the AI will stop too soon for that. To not run out of coal once the interchange is far away, you could buy an extra coal car and keep it full at the old Whittier interchange, and swap it in when the first car is empty. Then at your convenience just take the empty car to refill and place it at the old Whittier interchange.
@cat793cdumpy9 ай бұрын
Correct so I spilt 4 for L1 and 4 for the next logging place just up the line. Then I take 4 to the saw mill while the other 4 are getting loaded and just rinse and repeat. Always got logs at the sawmill and always got empties getting loaded.

With passenger service you don't need the fusees to make them stop at the stations, they will automatically stop at any checked station and stay there until a) all available passengers going to other checked stations are loaded or b) until the minimum time you set in the settings to wait has elapsed. I use fusees to make my shuttle passenger service stop until I can tell them to go the other way, but for thru passenger service that's just going one way, the fusees aren't necessary

I noticed when running passenger that if the train stops at a fusee at a station and you want it to continue, you can place another fusee at the other end of the train. If they are not too far apart, the fusee preventing further progress will go out. This makes moving trains from one station to the next easier as the return trip has a fusee at the correct location already. Also the G16 Mogul is a regular workhorse and is cheap. I have 4 so far. The longer the RR gets the more locos you have, the easier playing solo is.
@jereljackson69449 ай бұрын
I’ve noticed that you can greatly extend the life of your fuel state(s) (i.e. coal & water) by running your locomotive gingerly (i.e. low(er) power settings). This could be a complete game bug, or developer oversight, or entirely by design, but when you first start out, your trains aren’t all that heavy. By keeping your power settings low(er) when moving from a standstill (e.g. 35 or less on the G-16 Mogul) you practically don’t use any fuel! I’ve gone the whole game so far running passenger trains (and shunting jobs) back and forth not using ANY coal or water, saving resources, thus saving time and money! The AI, when used, tends to kill your resources dramatically because when it begins movements it, by default, guns the power hard (50-100) to get rolling, thus “wasting” your locomotive’s fuel state rapidly and unnecessarily (in my opinion). I typically start at a low power setting of 10-15, get my train moving a bit, then increase to no more than 35 (35 is just my max preference, usually, and typically all that I need) and let my train increase itself to 25-40 mph on its own timeframe. The Connelly Creek run for logs/pulpwood is a bit different, as the uphill grade and weight of your trains typically require you to run at higher power settings to make it up the hill. That’s where my only fuel depletion seems to come from, but since I don’t make those runs frequently, I’ve still managed to save quite a bit on fuel depletion so far while I’m passenger running and shunting cars around. I have yet to use the AI at all (there’s simply not enough going on to require me to use them in-game so far (I run a 1:1 timeframe day)), but from what I’ve noticed from watching others on KZbin that do, it seems to me that you can transition to and from AI mode on the fly-your trains don’t have to be stopped!. Given that, I suppose you could always start your trains moving and, once established, use the AI to take it from there to manage the rest of the run and stop at any fusees you’ve placed. The AI still uses massive power fluctuations, but maybe may not use nearly as much or any at all once you’ve started your train in motion and the train has achieved speed (e.g. 25 or 30 mph). At the moment, I haven’t paid any engineering fees, and I am saving money on resource cost (coal; water is free), but I also know that as my railroad grows and expands that will most likely change. It’s, obviously, a lot of work, but you could run the entire railroad operation yourself, never using the AI, and save money in those areas. On a 1:1 timeframe day, there’s PLENTY of time to do it all, of course, until your operation gets to be so big that there isn’t! 😉😊
