New York, Susquehanna & Western's UT-1 is featured here on April 11, 2023: 1) running on industrial (ex-West Shore) tracks in Utica NY; 2) holding on the Susquehanna's Utica main (ex-DL&W) at block station "MILLS"; 3) toughing its way up Paris Hill's 1.8% grade in Clayville; and 4) in Paris Station, a stone's throw from Paris Hill's summit.

Hi, I love seeing Utica in these videos. My late wife and I lived there in 1970. I am currently in the Santa Barbara CA area. I do not miss upstate winters.

Where was all the extra Horn noise coming from at the Crossing? I'm sensing one has to make an appointment to see Bitold in true action form as he seems to be pondering another hibernation. Love that angle along Railroad Street plus the panoramic view at French's station looking down on the train. That dog on the porch has nothing to worry about and was that one of the riders on the tractor a few months ago as it looks familiar. Sitting by the back door in Greater Milwaukee 10P 62F

The noise was coming from the first boxcar. I edited about 20 seconds out of the train's approach to the crossing but the noise (whatever it was) was consistent. I almost wonder whether the conductor riding on the boxcar had an airhorn, lol. No, the dog in Clayville was not one of the dogs riding on the tractor in the previous video; this fellow was much bigger.

Lovely to see the hills of Upstate New York again. These scenes reminded me of the last years of the Skaneateles RR, although the trains were smaller, pulled by one of their GE 44 Tonners. I swear, the large hill near the end reminded me of the Jordan Road grade crossing at Old Seneca Turnpike. All that was back in the mid 1970s, but it's so similar in my recollection. Anyway, decades later, I am writing you from my new home near Roanoke Virgina, where we are high enough to "touch the sky." Blessings & Joy from Cave Springs Virginia! 😊💜

Thanks for the video. Sure brought back memories for me. I grew up 2 city blocks from NYS&W in the north end of Paterson, NJ. Saw quite a few trains cross Lyon St. with a hand operated crossing gate. Alco RS1s,, 3-4 in a row growling up Riverside grade with freights. Also saw the RDCs when new. Even saw them on the Paterson city branch. The track condition looked about the same as I remember it looked in Paterson, NJ, late 40s,early 50s. Thanks again for the video.

Love watching these Trains in the American Towns and Countryside, hauling and switching Freight around local Industries. There is nothing like this in the UK. Our Railways have been systematically destroyed thru being Nationalised. I live right next to the East Coast Mainline, just south of the Scottish border. I see plenty of passenger Trains but the only Freights are Unit Trains, two Intermodels and two Cement Tankers - each day. It never varies.

Wondering, why are the almost of all tracks in US still lying on wooden sleepers? Here, in Ukraine, we have 100% of mainlines are based on concrete sleepers, as well the majority of service branches.
