Watching these clips with the calm serene music fells like living in your nostalgia. But your older now, so you don’t wish for those meteorites to be your current life, instead you now understand they are in the past and that is how you appreciate them.

Wow, I can' not even tell you how much emotion the scene in Reno brought up for me. I went to high school in Reno, graduated in 1987, and would train watch all the time. My entire family is gone now, and I miss my dad, mom and brothers. Just watching these amazing images from the past are priceless. Thank you for sharing this video.

Wow! Very nostalgic footage. The music was the perfect touch too. Being born in the late 80s, trains didn't become a thing for me until the 90s, and by then the ruggedness of the railroads were already transitioning into what we have today. Something about the brute force of man, machines, and the vast undeveloped land they traveled through. What a era to witness and to see what it has become today.

If it makes you feel any better, 1:17 - 1:30. 913 is in operating service at the California State Railroad Museum, and I believe 918 operates on occasion at the Niles Canyon Railway.

When I was just a boy, I lived near the Union Pacific line in Modesto Ca. At night, I would keep my window open so I could hear the low, rumbling drone of the engines as the train came into town. With the occasional whistle. To this day, I still keep the window open at night. Listening for that rumble of the now BNSF line. Just something about it that brings me a little peace… Great video and the music is perfect.

22:51 is at Haggin in Sacramento. The BN train is northbound on the WP ducking beneath the SP. The area looks much the same today, except the WP yard is gone. Those Mustangs are fresh from the Ford San Jose Assembly plant that closed in 1983. Really nice footage and film restoration. I like the music, too. Who is the photographer?

That thread also says that batch were overhauled and repainted at Amtrak's New Haven shops in 1980, meaning this footage is from 1980 at the earliest.

Always a bit weird for example seeing a train with enclosed auto racks as common as nowadays but then at the end with a caboose. Or watching a GE Widecab but reconize at second sight there are no ditch lights on it! the change from old to new eras were a flow not just a stop and then a new beginning!

@@wmuzeke Cool to see you here zeke! I loved the Zephyr shots in the last year with the conventional consists I shifted eras in HO stopped modeling 48/49 (1983-88) for a bit but am modeling the 1980-82/89-90 version with heritage equipment
