Love the playlist and the videos! I've coded for over 20 years and git has been around for all of it. I've never been able to use it no matter how hard I've tried.. Turns out my Therapist confirmed years later that I have commitment issues, go figure...

I really wish you would do more high level explanations of basic Rails concepts before diving into specific examples. We're already on video 10 and you have just now first mentioned that ERB isn't the same as Ruby. That should really have been something we talked about in video 1 or 2, how it's different from normal Ruby, what the syntax is like, and why it exists

Oh good catch! It's easy to take that for granted since I've been using it for 12+ years. I will make a video on Erb. 👍 If you think of any other things we missed like that, let us know!

@@GorailsTV Thanks for being so receptive and responsive! In general it's always a good idea to start with a 500 foot view of core concepts then start to drill down into specifics from there, especially when the target audience includes beginners. It's easy to become blind to the things that are familiar to us because we use them every day but which are very alien and confusing to other people who've never seen them

Great tutorial, but I'm not sure what happened or what I need to do. When I ran git commit -m "initial commit" my terminal cursor changed to "dquote>" and I have no idea what I need to do now.

Why are the flash messages not rendering for me? I copied the exercise exactly as you did it and I even see the partial rendering in my rails log but I don't see it on the web page like you do.

This might be a stupid question. But how come in VS Code I have to continually hit insert to type something, or I try and cut, or copy and paste something w ctr command and it just doesn't work?

You guys are awesome explaining very well which makes me to watch all your videos. But the fact is, nearly 2 decade ago I was jsp guru, and we abanddoned because of people hate to stuff server side code inside client side code. Can someone please convience me why it is still needed?
@GorailsTV9 ай бұрын
That's why rails does as much work server side as possible.

How do you get your terminal to work after you've run rails server ?
@Stifl Жыл бұрын
You just open a new one. Can't use the one where the server is running "in".

How are you getting your visual studio code to show changed files or folders? Mine does not seem to have this feature enabled.
