I do love watching you work out building stuff - sometimes getting a vague idea from your head into MC is a pain in the butt but it's always satisfying when it works out. I like the idea of the double support pillars, I thought it looked great with the stripped wood. Maybe, as someone else commented elsewhere, do that every few pillars? Save on the wood and also for the aesthetic. Really am getting a whole new appreciation for acacia but I do wish it was easier to get a large supply! As a Java player, I am deeply jealous of forward placing. I also didn't realise that this gold farm wouldn't work on Java. That's a crying shame, I was considering giving it a try. Ah well I'm sure some clever types somewhere have come up with java gold farms although if it's nether only, Imma going to nope out :D I like longer vids so the length didn't bother me. 40 minutes goes fast when you're enjoying what your watching and just sometimes, 20 minutes can feel too short.
@SlackLizard2 күн бұрын
I agree on 20 mins feeling short most of the time. It's actually easier to do longer episodes in a way if I'm being really chatty it's hard to find that balance of keeping it interesting. I find music tends to help a lot in the background

I really appreciate creators who understand that a video is getting long after it passes the half hour mark! I have a hard time managing more than 20 minutes at a time, and when I inevitably get interrupted, everything before that is lost. Forward placing is the single Bedrock feature I most jones for, closely followed by whatever mechanic(s) it is that allows making trident killers for hands-off afk-able player kills. I'm looking forward to learning how to install a safety on those. Yeah, powder snow may be slow, but it's reliable for getting rid of pigmen and magma cubes. I've been using it for years now to make traps to keep pigmen from cluttering up my portals, although I recently learned that placing armor stands in the portal will keep them from spawning there at all (dunno if that's another Java-only feature, though).
@SlackLizard3 күн бұрын
Never heard of the Armor stand one and not sure how that would work on bedrock, my guess is the armor stand would be sent into the nether as the pigman spawn mechanic that's getting used here is a bit different. Every time the portal lights it has a chance to spawn 1-4 pigmen which if I recall isn't something that Java has. From what I know this was left so bedrock could have gold farms from earlier versions before people realized you can build nether based gold farms on bedrock just alot of people don't want to. With not being able to build on the nether roof some consider it to much work to do a nether based Farm :( As for the Video's length I been trying to find the right spot for this series and I been floating between 20-25 mins on average with a random one + or - a min here or there. This video I was trying something new with Editing Software that my Friend Hatter made which helps streamline the whole process by loads and by default was longer. I decided to try a longer episode to see how the audience takes it and this was probably a dangerous video to do it on. Might have been better to try it on a Tech Vid but I'm trying to break the norm on my channel so we shall see. Sorry gave you a book there but really enjoyed your feedback and thought I'd leave some in return.

@@SlackLizard I am a textbased lifeform, and I do not mind reading at all! I'm pleased to get your thoughts. Although I prefer shorter videos, I can't deny that I schedule time to watch DocM77's movie every week! I admit I've dropped back on watching some creators after they moved from an average of 20 minutes to 30 minute videos on the regular, but every creator has to find what works best between them and the majority of their viewers, and I will stretch to the best of my ability for creators I particularly value. I know it has to be difficult to condense good, meaty content down to a comfortable viewing length, but despite my interest in the mechanics and learning how to build good farms and other contraptions, unless I'm specifically looking for a tutorial, I'm here much more for my creators' personalities. I'm glad you've got a tool that streamlines the editing! I get the strong impression that editing is the most time consuming, least enjoyable part of producing videos for most creators. So I'm all for anything that improves the process; that leads straight to more frequent, better content. I haven't actually tried the armor stand thing for myself yet and have no idea what the mechanics behind it actually are, but I learned it from a slicedlime snapshot video, so I know it's true. Yeah, the pigmen spawning has nothing to do with _lighting_ the portal in Java; it's simply that each of those purple portal blocks has a chance of randomly spawning pigmen, so the bigger the portal, the more pigmen you get. There actually have been overworld farms based on this mechanic (I built one myself way back in 1.10, and learned from that _never, _*_ever_* to build a portal-based farm near a player-use portal without exquisitely perfect linking!), but they're not even remotely as effective as Bedrock's thing.

@SlackLizard - I personally like the deepslate options for the rail system supports over the acacia focused ones. A suggestion I would have is to use the double deepslate for areas that require more support due to terrain or areas connection and the solo for simple support. It would be a nice combination.
@chrish74212 күн бұрын
Add the double supports every 4 column supports, you’ll find double supports every so often on elevated structures. Usually done for stability and to give the extra support while keeping the structure flexible. Otherwise without the flex from the single supports the structure could fail from material and design harmonics.

Great video. To answer your question, my favorite Bedrock exclusive is definitely trident killers. Like the rail system how everything is progressing. I was thinking as you were building that you could conserve your Acacia planks under the rails by using upper slabs. I like adjusting the heights of the pillars to match the terrain like you did and the lanterns are a great touch. I like the single support or the duel brick support pillars. I think the deepslate bricks look nicer for pillars than the Acacia. You could hide the lever by putting them on the bottom of the block in the middle. I think there is a hidden block that could be removed to allow for this. With all the Acacia you are using, an Acacia tree farm might be a great next farm. :) The powdered snow failsafe is great. However, I've had powdered snow disappear on me before (in a trident killer scenario similar to yours), and because it slows the fall of mobs, if your trident killer pistons are moving too quickly, it can keep the mobs from falling all the way down. However, these both seem to be working okay on your farm, so it might just be a quirk on my world. Often times, at least on sim 4, flying away then returning can help despawn unruly mobs if you get too many of them at once. Looking forward to what you build/do/adventure next. ~Cam

I tried Java before and hate you can not use controller, and the mods to allow you to are glitchy.

Yea I've known quite a few people who have tried to use the controller mods and were not happy with them at all. Side note it's not that I couldn't set down and do that kind of grind in MC I have for years but me personally I'm trying to change my style of content. I'm trying more consistent content along with content that I'm personally happy with. There have been many times in the past I just put out a vid to just put out a video and I don't want to do that anymore. I'm what 5 years into this now and I want to try to make this channel grow more and I want to be happy with it and that's why I've shifted the style of the content I been doing as of the last couple months. We are a huge military family. The kids playstyle is similar to your current series style now. Since I am retired and have a lot more free time I push most the over the top redstone farms and stuff for them to use as they need. Right now I am happy spending 12 hours a day in test worlds trying to redesign an over the top server cart based hybrid storage system for all of us to pull from. Java has several great examples but none really exist for Bedrock so it has been fun trying to figure out something compact and lagless that works within Bedrock constrictions, lol.

You could try replacing the deepslate on either side of the fence with deepslate brick walls to add a bit more depth Also smart trident killer for gold farm :)
