Wow, what a finale! You have done an absolutely superb job on this season, and Rails to Refuge is fast becoming one of my absolute favorite series: it's always a great pleasure whenever a new episode comes out. This season has constantly kept me on my toes: it was so satisfying to see theories and predictions come true, and even more satisfying for the big shock moments that seemingly came out of nowhere but were so intricately set up. Your story writing, script work, characterization and world building a truly phenomenal and inspiring, and right up there on par with the likes of The Tales of New Wessex and The Dark Railway Series. Each character feel so unique and individually in their personalities, and that helps them to not only be distinctive, but makes us the audience care so much about what happens to them. I was shocked by it being Gregory to be the one involved in the crash, as initially thought that it may have actually been Anthony or even Thorton, but having it be our dearly departed Standard 5 makes a lot more sense. He was a very interesting character that had a unique stance and element of being the only Standard Class on the line, but I don't feel as though there was as much potential for his character to grow as with the others, and his death does truly drive home the sheer brutality that BR will go to, even if it should mean destroying one of their newest locomotives. I am so intrigued to see how and where Anthony Manor will go from here, being so stuck in the middle as to wanting to be rid of Mr Star but also being so horrified and enraged by BR for what atrocities they have committed and for murdering his dearest friend. It's also so great of how much of a morally grey and flawed character is, which is especially shown in how he basically gas-lights and guilt-trips Thorton into staying silence, but also in his sense of what is right and his protectiveness and vengeance for those he holds dear. Darius' end was very tragic as well, but I am glad that he did find peace thanks to our favorite purple-eyed weirdo,, who looks set to be the railway's guardian angel for the coming future. It is always tragic to see a once noble, heroic character fall so far from grace, but so compelling too! The fallout and consequences of this incident have so much weight and severity to them, which really drives it home just how terrible this would be in reality, and the more somber, darker tones of this episode really fit to. This does leave me with a great deal of anticipation for what is to come in 2023 and Season 3 of RTR. What will become of the private locomotives on the Eastward Branch? How will Riley and the engines/worker at the quarry get on? What will happen to Reginald once his contract with BR expires? Will Mr Star be able to clear his name? Will Anthony be able to mend the rift between himself and Thorton and get his justice, or will he only be able to watch it all spiral down even further? Will Hart and King Richard's mad crusade see more tragedy befall the railway? Will Buck eventually return to save the railway? Where did he go? And what exactly is his beef with Levi from the past at Banbury shed? Will Lord Dexby eventually snap and give Hart Hall a tank shell to the smokebox? (I'm really hoping for this one XD) And also, where was Pat in all of this? I swear we haven't seen him for several episodes now, and I'm really missing my favorite looney 4F: hopefully he and Jess are getting on arlight, although I wonder how he will cope with the loss of Darius. His opinions on BR and Mr Star after learning of all that has transpired will be very interesting to see too. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Chris! I still remember the liveliness and fun of the first episode, of which Buck comedically derails, until the episodes get even more darker...and bloodier. Looks like Anthony Manor, Russell and Gregory are racked with guilt, but BR can't risk them so Mr. Knox used Darius's sabotage meant for Hart Hall to get rid of Gregory. No loose ends, but that comes at a cost of their own reputation. If it comes out that BR did this, then passengers and freight contracts will dry up on the main network, leaving them the ones who truly look like the bad guys. Also, Thorton and Anthony's relationship is gone. They're brothers, yes, but Anthony Manor burnt that bridge and he's already burning the bridge with BR (Yes, insert Burning Bridges song here). With Dexby watching everyone, including Hart Hall, they're on eggshells. Any slip up would give him the ammunition they are afraid of. No matter what, they are exposed to the one man who has a reputation that exceeds him. Yes, everyone has evil sides, but it's a case of who's willing to wash off the makeup and wear their sins with pride. As for Anthony and Russell, they'll be living with the ghosts of their actions. Reilly's Crew, Thorton's relationship, Gregory, Gregory's crew, the passengers, Darius. No matter where they run, no matter where they hide, they can't escape unless they come to terms and make amends. Right the wrongs that have been transgressed upon Stard and his fleet as well as the families of the crews and passengers. Yes, Darius made his bed and laid on it, but for the rest, they have their beds made, but aren't lying on them. To be seen, but I foresee Dexby forcing these engines to lay in their beds. Yes, Stard's in hell and in pain over what happened, but he's facing everything head on. Only the fool who stands proud is the weakest and scared. If this does play out with Dexby forcing everyone to come and face their demons, then I foresee a lot of growth and change on the horizon for everyone, except Hart Hall and King Richard. I see them being alone, friendless, family-less and awaiting the scrapman's torch. No one will want them, no one will want to associate with them. The blood is thick now, too thick to wade through. Guilt is powerful, but it can be overcome by opening yourself up. Bearing themselves naked. No masks, no make up, no costumes. Will the guilt be lessened if they admit it and come clean, yes, but they will live with it no matter what. Opening up, coming clean, making amends will make the guilt bearable, but it will not erase what has happened. There is no winner right now. If everything continues on this path, there will never be a winner. Even though BR won on paper, in the eyes of people such as the managers of other railways, BR lost. That deal with the devil Russell foresaw has now come to pass and it will take a deal with the angels to put this right. We will have to wait to see if such predictions here come to pass. and to borrow a quote from John Webster-“Do you not weep? Other sins only speak, murder shrieks out: The element of water moistens the earth, But blood flies upwards and bedews the heavens.”

My prediction is that Buck makes his return once he finds out that Hall nearly put Reilly 6ft under in cement and bricks. He’ll snap out of whatever is effecting him. I also believe that Anthony Manor might have to step in earlier and tell Mr. Dickerson what’s happening or what Mr. Star said in the sheds.

Hart's actions eventually lead to an engines demise eventually- twice. Overall a heartbreaking, gut wrenching episode. I have not cried in a long time but this almost had me sobbing, I always loved Darius and Mr Dexbys last words for him just, well you know it's more sorrowful than the departure of Bride in TONW as at least she went out among friends but Darius was alone and only had a couple of minutes with Mr Dexby to send him off. Sad to see Gregory go as well but Darius well he always struck me as the kind of engine to defend friends and do what he thought right, though not to the extent seen here at all. Overall the best thing to come out of Epic Banastard, well done

Once again your video has left me speechless, I wasn't expecting Gregory to go bye bye, nor was I expecting Darius to be scrapped so quickly. TBH I was hoping that Hart was the one to kick the bucket, and I'm hoping Anthony sees what he has done to bring this all to where it is and redeems himself in Gregory's name. But god grief, I am blown away by this intensity of the plot of this talking trains series. Color me impressed! Surprised how dark it got even though it started comedically, but would be great to end the series off with. Few comedic episodes. How horrible that Mr. Knox and Hart did and it makes me sick to my stomach. Reminds me of this world, that the ideas thrown into the story here actually characters certain individuals as well. Can’t wait to go to chapter 3! Maybe I could apply to be a VA for a newer character, maybe a North Easterner or another LMS locomotive, or another GWR engine; maybe an 0-6-0 tender engine. I could do a British accent as a plus, I have ancestry from that part of the world.

Only found this series yesterday and spent most of yesterday watching it and i love it. The character dynamics between the characters and the rivalry between the BR loyalists and Mr Stard's crew is really interesting. Both sides can't even be considered as good guys with all they've done to achieve their goals and this finale showed it perfectly. Seeing BR's length to get Stard out even if it leads to death of one of their engines and countless people. Anthony slowly starting to realise BR's cruelity and beginning to question whether this was the right path to get his revenge on Stard. Gregory dying for something his colleage should've recieved instead, honestly in a way he's luckly he passed when he did with what BR will plan to do to all steam engines in the coming future with the eventually coming of the modernisation plan when that does happen. Darrius admiting to what he did but not want Mr Stard to get in trouble and excepting his fate thanks to Mr Dexby's words to him. Mr Dexby going from Watching Stard and causing him trouble to comforting him and protecting the engines. This series is fantastic and i can't wait to see more, really want to see Richard and Hart get their commupance and see them react to getting replaced by diesels when that time does come and finally realising BR couldn't care less for them.

It’s sad to think that, throughout the whole show, Gregory has been a true innocent, he’s been the subject of a nasty plan that mr stars requested, which left him with a distaste for him due to the fear of hurting others, expressed his resentment towards harts actions when two crewmen were killed by his malicious plan, and then died by a sadistic man’s plan to ruin stards reputation, a man who never cares to remember the locos names, just their numbers, like an accountant files taxes. He is the definition of that adage that you must blind a beautiful child so as to not be exposed to the horrors of life

I've been watching Rails to Refuge quite a few times now and I can't help but focus on Russell through all this with BR. I'm probably just overanalyzing this and sounding kinda dumb, but I personally think Russell has an awful lot of potential as a character for redemption. I could name numerous small points across Rails to Refuge that seem to show Russell being better than the BR lot and in some cases, quite good. For instance, his joint celebrations with the Stard engines when Mr Johnson's workings were replaced Mr Stard's in Black Rose, his understanding of the delays when Rab collected his train in Old Wounds or in Sabotage where he believes Buck's odd instructions to leave the train on the viaduct despite Buck's notorious reputation for tricks. (Granted, there are probably explanations for these if you don't believe it, its Season 2 where it's the clearest). In Two Fronts where Mr Dickinson talks to the BR engines, Russell is the only one to show concern. He was silent for a while and his words "I can't help but feel like we've just made a deal with the devil" says it all. It makes sense for Russell to be the one to show concern here, he's the oldest engine out of the four (being built in 1912). Considering he would have been based at Newport for most of his life, and having gone through two world wars (almost certainly hauling coal trains for the war effort from the South Wales Coalfields), he must have gone through serious low points during his service life. After seeing how tense Shawe was in Tales of New Wessex, you can hardly blame him. The engine that notices Russell's concern and manages to convince him into this is King Richard. After watching both seasons of Rails to Refuge, I can see that Russell and King Richard were good friends before Hart was even built, Richard seems to know what to say to Russell to keep him calm. Case and point, here where he talks about sacrifices and in Two Fronts where he tells Russell "We're all in this together". Even Buck pointed out in The Redwick Flyer that Richard wasn't always this pompous and arrogant. Something clearly changed. My guess is that it was Hart Hall and his arrival did something to Richard like how Seaforth and Falkland changed Frank and Max. Russell must have felt left out and alone in all this and wanted to feel like he fitted in. Russell also seems to be good friends with Levi and Axel as in Becoming when talking about finding more engines for BR, he dismissed them straight away. I feel as if he does care about them, knowing that getting involved is the last thing they would want. When Rab becomes the station pilot in Old Wounds, Hart Hall takes out the delays on Rab. However when it is mentioned that some engines understood as it was not Rab's fault, who is shown? Russell. (That could just be a lucky coincidense but it feels more obvious and clear of a contrast here to me). Here, Russell openly shows concern about Hart's actions alongside Gregory but as soon as Richard backs Hart's corner, he's completely thrown back. As gutting as it is that he didn't stick to his guns and back Gregory, he was still intimidated by Hart and I reckon he has been for a long time now. When he heard about Gregory's crash, he's absoloutely devestated and probably feeling extremely guilty for not backing his corner when he had the chance to. I would expect Russell to be very depressed, guilt ridden and torn apart by what has happened. Though he was misguided through all this, I can still see him making a big redemption arc in this. How that could be I don't know, but I see a lot of potential in Russell to change this around with the Stard engines and redeem himself in some way. As unlikely as it is, it's just my own way of seeing it and theorizing. Aside from my rubbish theory, I really enjoy watching Rails to Refuge. I joined late and watched my first live episode with Your All (still my Number 1 favourite episode) and I cannot wait for Season 3. Lets hope Mr Dexby can bring order in all this! (If this theory is nonsense, thats completely fine. I thought it would be worth mentioning with Season 3 approaching). Edit: I've just discovered that Russell was based at Aberbeeg between January - March 1930 while Aberbeeg had a shortage of 4200s. Not sure if this is of any use but I'm pretty sure it means he could possibly have seen Shawe and Huw in the days of GWR. (If it helps, the book I found his allocation in was Railway and Industry in the Western Valley, Aberbeeg to Brynmawr & Ebbw Vale by John Hodge).

Rails to Refuge and Tales of New Wessex are something they can't compete with in my eyes. Mr Stard with his engines are phenomenal. Many moments can have me in hysterics while others I've shed tears to. Your characters are superb. Seb is a gem, Drax's dedication to Caerphilly Castle reminds me of me with the GWR, Reggie has a great arc, Ramsey is gold and who doesn't love Buck? (His broken mumbling in Cathedral on Fire really hit me hard, hope he's ok). You've put so much heart into this and I can't begin to say how much this means to me seeing and hearing all the work going into it. I cannot wait to see that scumbag 7907 get whats coming!

This has been quiet a bum-bard-ding series for me to watch. I mean the season one ending had been rather bleak for me, but damn this one is a lot more teary than sappy. I have no idea on what kind of hell of a script you'll do or if they'll be more seasons intended than just season three. But one thing will be certain for me to you, I will never stop watching this series, I won't stop watching Rails of Refuge, and I have no intention of stopping till a decent and pleasant ending comes to through in (even if I don't watch on a daily bases on a new release). Though can I ask for no cliffhangers if you get to burnt out from doing this? Pleases and sorry if this last bit "may irritate" you. I won't ask, but recommend from this bit.

I think that there's going to be fallout on both sides I think Mr star is going to get what he wants but he's not going to be able to hold on to everything he wants. The bigger question is is Albert Hall going to stay on BR side after this. My big prediction in all of this is that the engines are going to be able to get rid of hart hall maybe even get him scrapped but they are definitely going to lose some friends most likely but since he's taking such a backseat in this endeavor or Mr star maybe forced to resign putting the engines at the mercy of the BR

I think that an engine of Darius’s class should come to the line and when she finds out that Darius was cut up after a misunderstanding, she blares out at the board and tells them that they should’ve sent Hart first since she thinks that goods trains are more important than passenger trains. What’s more is that she is one of the engines that were sent to France and is numbered 5322 (one of the two surviving 4300s in real life).
