My grandfather and great grandfather were railway infrastructure engineers from Sweden. They were involved in many of the eastern bridges in the U.S. It's interesting for me to see the skills and innovative methods used in Sweden.

Interesting but what is the point of electrifying what seems to be a quiet branch line? As I understand it, electrification is uneconomic unless there are at least six trains an hour.

Since most of the railway network in Sweden is electrified, almost 80%, it’s sometimes reasonable to electrify less used lines as well. It keeps the network together and improves the flow. It also makes the operators happy since it's less expensive than using diesel. This particular line was more or less disused for many years. It’s now seeing an increase in traffic, especially freight. The line is owned by the state but is run by a private operator. The cost for the electrification, including some upgrades, was shared between the state and private interests. Including a steel company and the largest producer in the world of Scandinavian crisp bread (!)

Steff2929again There is always a network benefit to electrification but there are some pretty sparsely-trafficked lines with wires eg Uddevalla-Strömstad and the Lysekil branch, though the latter is now being proposed for a summer passenger service.

Henry Law I have never heard of any de-electrification of a line still in use. It's very unusual.
@henrybn14ar10 жыл бұрын
Steff2929again It has happened when the equipment became life-expired or traffic levels have dropped. Shildon-Newport was electric from 1915-1935. Manchester to Sheffield was electrified until closure when the locomotives were sold to Netherlands Railways. Now the closure is regretted, typical British short-sightedness. www.rcts.org.uk/shop/publications/shildon.htm

Another thing is that when majority of lines are electrified, it is also economical to operate only electric trains in many lines than operating both diesel, electric and hybrid trains simultaneously and switching between the two between both electrified and unelectrified lines which prevents a lot of time, hassles and delays.

How did you calculate pole's foundation. that was seeing quite weak...
@pearlyhumbucker90656 жыл бұрын
@regnum optik That's up to the surveying team. If you look closely you may see the colour markings on the track. At the end most of the poles dont need a very strong foundation at all.
