I cannot put into words how much I would like to go to the Talyllyn Railway someday. It is arguably the Mecca of both Thomas fans and rail preservationists as well. But in the meantime, I've already got a trip planned to another iconic narrow gauge railway, the Durango & Silverton in Colorado, so I can't complain. But someday, I intend to visit the Railway With a Heart of Gold itself.

Since you're already going to be in the neighborhood, I'd highly recommend you check out the Cumbred and Toltec. It is an amazing journey, and not terribly expensive. I did both and if I had to pick one, I'd do the Cumbres and Toltec. But both are awesome either way!

@@ardsleytank7769 I'd like to go to the Cumbres and Toltec too, but the trip I planned with my family does not make time for a detour there. Besides, from what I've heard, the Durango and Silverton has the better scenery. I imagine it will be exciting to travel on tracks that are practically cut into cliffsides. But I'm sure I would enjoy the Cumbres and Toltec as well.

Managed to strike visiting the Talyllyn Railway of my bucket list. Rode on trains pulled by Talyllyn and Dolgoch. And Talyllyn looked absolutely gorgeous in Great Eastern Railway Ultramarine.

A lovely blend of the Skarloey Railway theme and the 'Railway With a Heart of Gold' theme. Had 'Great Little Engines' and 'New Little Engine' been adapted for TV, this would have been ideal for when Sir Handel and Peter Sam visited the Talyllyn. Very well done.
