Tamilnadu express and Coromandel express trains were newly introduced super fast express with pantry cars from Chennai to new Delhi and Howrah, in the year 1976/77. I travelled in the said trains on introduction. At that time, there was no AC. It was only 2nd Sleeper, 2nd Upper class and 1st Class. Very special train at that time and getting ticket is a fortune as it has to be obtained at Counter, where people used to sleep near counter overnight to book ticket.

I remember my childhood and boyhood days of the late 70s and full 80s and earliest 90s .. this route..Grand trunk express used to come phenyl wahed and used to get parked in chennai central platform. I "think" it used to be platform 3 and 4 in the 80s😊

i m traveling in TN since my childhood first was in 1991 where Chennai to Nagpur were electrified then NGP to ITARSI was dissel locomotive with twin engines Itarsi to NDL was electrified with fabulous wap 1 Gaziabad , those days three ac coaches one 1st ac and two 2 ac two tier apart from this, there was non ac first class coach was there 10 sleeper class plus pantry car was there those days journey in my Favorite Tamil nadu express was heavan , Countries fastest non Rajdhani Shatabdi express TAMIL NADU EXPRESS WAS THE KING OF SOUTHERN RAILWAYS even faster then AP karnataka kerala express .

Dear Arumugham..you seems to be a nalla paiyaan but you're full of high emotions. Daivsedhu, ponga and visit Chandran kovil in Thingalur, about 20-25 odd kms from Kumbakonam. Neenga Chandran disturb irruku, visit on Monday and perform milk abhishekam to lord Chandran. Offer water to Sivalingam too, it would balance your emotions soon. Kandippa ponga. Good luck.

I was fortunate to travel by the KK Express in 1977, similar to TN Express, in the pantry car, there was a library section wherein one could purchase books, comics, etc, it could attain speeds upto 130kmph with icf coaches and alco engines, amalgamation/ bifurcation was at jolarpet jn

Prassana..daivsedhu, dont drive at such high speeds macha. Please go to Vaitheeswaran kovil and pray to Chevvai and also perform the milk abhishekam to sage Dhanvantari. Do the jal abhishekam also for Sivan to get rid of all the driving sins you've committed in high speed. Kandippa ponga pa.
