Many times traveled by this during 1970's. Still same dep time is maintained . I used to travel from Bangalore to Delhi and taking this train at Chennai. Once traveled by 2nd class sleeper cum sitting compartment , day time sitting and half compartment converted to sleeper . Those days only two trains depart from Chennai to Delhi, GT exp and Dakshin Exp/ Southern/ Link Exp . In this train half train goes to Hyderabad other half to Delhi detached at KAZIPET JN and half added Bogies from Hyderabad to Delhi to this train.

My favourite train back in the 70s-85s from New Delhi to Madras Central (Chennai now) and back to New Delhi. Enjoyed the journeys to the full. With old brown ICF coaches. Sometimes ran as air conditioned Express with red livery. Great video.

In my childhood times this GT was hauled by twin Diesel locomotive at great speeds.... I would stand near the bridge of Nellore station and jump saying GT... GT.... GT.... Those great speeds are now worked by normal train ....sometimes even freight train... Only in 2005 I happened to travel in this Legend from New Delhi to Chennai..... Blue color ICF.... and that too in general compartment since I didn't get a booking. Travel was so exciting and tired . It is still an album in my mind... This video opened the album from back side.... Tooo excited to watch... Thanks buddy...

I have travelled with this train in 1988. From Madras Central to Jhansi jn. On those days only two trains were on this route GT Express and TN Express (having limited Stop). Now two to three years back I could learn that GT Express was started from Peshawar to Mangalore in 1929.

Such a great video !! 👍,👌👏 Magnificent capture !! 👍 I am from Southern most part of Kerala. In those times when I had been to Madras (old name of Chennai😊) I used to see this train standing on the very next platform ready for departure. Cochin Express to Kerala ( now known as Trivandrum Mail 😊 )by which we used to travel was also departing from Chennai Central almost at the same time. I am a big fan of this train. Thank you very very much for uploading this beautiful video on G.T EXPRESS. 👌👍. But the most beautiful part is that I have neither seen or gone to NEW DELHI so far in my life, NOR TRAVELLED IN MY MOST FAVOURITE TRAIN GT EXPRSS SO FAR !! 😊 Any how thank you very very much for posting this video 👏👌🙏😊.

It is one of the oldest fast trains existing in Indian Railways. As far as I know, in those days Late 70's and early 80 we use to have Howrah Mail, GT Express and Jayanthi Jayantha Express in south central division as the fastest trains. After that TN Express came followed by Coramandal, KK express etc.

I travelled only twice in this route, First in July 1982 by Dakshin Express which left Madras Central at 10.30 am and left me at Itarsi next day 15.30 hrs got so bored in this journey. Next I changed another train to reach Allahabad. In the second instance I travelled by Chennai -Lucknow Express in Aug2003 which left Chennai at 05.30 am and reached Bhopal at 21.00 hrs , and I took one more train to Jabalpur. Both journey were a nightmare indeed ( by sleeper class)

GT Express has been in service since 1932 or so. Even in 1971 it's speed was 110kmph.

Very old and a trunk route train. Hence name Grand Trunk Express. Initially ran from Peshawar (now in Pakistan) to Mangalore (in Madras Province then).

I think this train has much more halts than Tamilnadu Express.Also this train take more time to reach Delhi comparing to Tamilnadu Express, that's why Tamilnadu Express is called poor man's Rajdhani Express.
