Hi Liz, I just got Kalanchoe scallop and I’m glad I watched your video to find out they “sleep” during summer. You see, I don’t find all these information on line. I only get the taxonomy part. You being an avid and experienced grower of succulents, you give more detailed information about each succulent you grow and they are very useful. I appreciate you so much. I’m just beginning to grow them, but I’m a little bit impatient. I want to obtain the kind of color and size your succulents have. But I guess, it’s a slow process . Meanwhile succulents teach me “ patience”. Thank you so much!

It took me two years to realize they color up as most of the ones I've seen in person are pale and green. You get so use to them that one day they'll just pull the veil off your face and all of a sudden....It's a colourful world....LOL

Dealing with this today, bad heat wave, now awful rain, frustrating. I ran out to cover everyone with plastic, but plenty still got soaked, especially in the bigger planters below that are difficult to dry out, and then we will have cool temps and not much evaporation. I guess we shall see. I may use a butter knife or something to make holes in the dirt around the roots, stir things up, so they can air out some.

Yay for cooler weather. I think it is warmer here where I am but I'm still very thankful for a cooler change. Liz, as you know I have been going through a lot with my family over the last 6 months and have had to totally neglect my succulents in the garden. In November I managed to get some time to cover them with shade cloth but ever since then, they have been on their own. I hadn't even checked on them - until yesterday. To my amazement they were flourishing, It is possible I have lost a few but the ones that have survived are doing so well. I haven't hand watered them since this time last year lol. Unfortunately slugs and snails are getting to some of them. My "babies" I still look after (the ones in pots and propagation). I was happily surprised they were doing so well and when summer is over I will get back to doing things again.

@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
Bumps doesn't form a new plant. It just just changes the look of the plant which makes it a unique new plant. You have to propagate from it via cuttings to grow exact copies.

I love when you do walk about videos! When using flower stalk leaves for propagation, should we let the stalk flower completely before taking the leaves off? Or does that matter and you just go by the size of the leaf?
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
With the frillies, I go by the older leaves. When they start yellowing on the edges, then they're too old and have never put out babies for me. If I cross pollinate them with another variety, I let the oldest bottom leaf dry up before removing the top/higher leaves. Depending on the variety, some never put out babies at all.
@janetac17383 жыл бұрын
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK yeah I've been having a hard time propagating from the stalk leaves. I don't know when you take them off the flower stalk the tip of the leaf is not shaped the same as if you take it off of the plant stem so I thought that may have had something to do with it or maybe I was taking them off the stalk too soon. I guess it's just the luck of the draw. I had chopped my raindrops and the stem has 10 babies growing on it but my leaf propagations don't even have a single root yet LOL and I never ever liked the currungulated ones before tonight, after you said that about looking into the bumps to find pictures of things! That was so cute!
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын

Root growth will depend on the weather. Where do you live?
@monafelixb3 жыл бұрын
i live in malaysia..hot weather and sometimes rain.
@GrowingSucculentswithLizK3 жыл бұрын
@@monafelixb I would suggest preparing your soil(moist not wet) in a pot. Put some top dressing (prevent leaves and soil contact) and put the Romeo Rubin on top and just let it root up naturally. The old roots are no good but it's useful as an anchor into the soil. Put it somewhere with bright indirect light and wait. DO NOT WATER until you feel the pot is really light. When it does feel light or dry out, then dunk the pot in water but make sure only halfway. This is to encourage the roots to search out water that is halfway in the pot. It will take a couple of months for new roots to grow. Don't keep pulling the plants out. Be patient. Good luck.

Squeeze 3 pieces(removing seeds) into a glass of water, add sugar or honey to taste or not...You'll be just making this instead of orange juice or lemonade while you have fruit. The mealy bugs I think have infested more than just a few of your plants. I keep seeing video after video of mealy bugs. Have you considered natural predators for mealy bug? Or spraying diluted alcohol (since you only use water at the moment. And I’ve only found that if you see a mealy bug there at 10 more that you don’t. On the same plant. Mealy bugs likely spread by wind and if you bother a white fluff (filled with baby mealy bugs or eggs) just travel to its next victims. It can take weeks to months for the baby to ingest a plant but if nothing more than flushing with water or picking them away is done you’ll have a real problem on your hands soon. Good luck!

Hi Erin, Been growing succulents for the past five years and only since doing these videos on KZbin have I known about mealybug. @GrowingSucculentswithLizK4 ай бұрын
It all depends on the soil mix, position in the garden, watering and also the season. Some succulents color in summer, some color when it gets cold. Some color when stressed. Some will color if not watered for a long time. It all depends on each SPECIFIC PLANT.
