Rain Sounds Can Produce Pink Noise
We’ve all heard of “white noise,” typically referring to background static that makes it easier to quiet an overactive mind.
White noise helps many people sleep, but pink noise is even better for sleeping.
What brings pink noise?
Pink noise uses a consistent frequency, or pitch, to create a more even, flat sound, like a steady rain, wind rustling through trees, or waves on a beach. Its added depth and lower waves filter out higher sounds. As a result, you hear more relaxing, lower-frequency sounds.
Steady pink noise may help people relax for sleep by masking bothersome sounds.
One early study found that playing steady pink noise at 60 decibels helped participants fall asleep faster.
