It is always interesting to watch the crew of Basik taking care of her maintenance. It is so nice to see how Emma has become so skillfully and knowledgeable a crew member. I think the best is the smiles that are always present on all 3 of you. Safe sails and following seas from Canada.

This is for Linh and other chefs out there, watching you cut those thin slices of lettuce I wondered if you considered getting a mandoline slicer, or didn't want one in order to save space? They're nice to have but, like using a knife, can cut you, although there are some that are safer to use than others. I got introduced to one years ago and find it a nice tool to have in the kitchen. As long as I'm talking nice cheap gadgets for the kitchen, there's this small section of chainmail looking stuff that is great for getting cast iron skillets clean without damaging the patina that a good cast iron skillet develops. The last thing is this little red and green push button thing called a 'Strawberry Stem and Leaf Remover' that makes preparing strawberries much easier. The tip opens when you press the button, press it into the top of the berry and out comes the core and leaves.

Teal, what about getting a small dehumidifier to put in the hold with damp sails or anything else prone to mold developing? You might be able to power it with a portable solar panel.

Lot of helicopter activity near that marina - just saying. The big 3 expensive items - Mast & sails, Motor and the electronics. Compass makes an appearance. Made my day. I luv that little furball. Cooking & not wasting the beer video with Linh. I know sorta that this video is almost 4 months behind- but thanks for the 2024 season aboard basik. Stay safe in 2025.

I gotta say on the fish thing.. I am kinda torn of "need to know what you are catching to make sure it is in season" and "fish = dinner who cares" One part of me who fished in rivers and lakes was always stay in season/limit so you can keep tre he population healthy and for the next generations to enjoy... Then again 1 person taking 1 fish in or out of season for dinner will not really hurt anything, but that leads two the group thinking like that and soon it is 1 million people taking 1 fish that is 1 million fishs..... I also do not know about or ever cared about how far out you need to fish to be in international waters, or other countrys laws.. Again I fished in Minnesota so in state or "border waters" of other states and Canada is what I delt with and learnt...

To ask a stupid question, why are you taking down the mast? I have watched videos of the standing rigging being replaced without mast removal.
@OnboardLifestyle
@OnboardLifestyle Ай бұрын
Rigging on a cruising boat has a lifespan of about 10-12 years. Basik is 31 years old and we really do not know the age of our current rigging (probably 22-25 years old). We are taking this opportunity to drop the mast to inspect and replace all the necessary components to keep our rig safe. With it down we can upgrade the aging electrical wiring as well.

Actually amazing you have never had the mast off the boat. It was time, for an inspection, if nothing else.

I'm surprised by how many people go barefoot on boats. In my sailing days, I quickly found that anytime I didn't wear shoes I inevitably stubbed my toe on a piece of deck hardware. I suppose I'm less aware of my surroundings than others are.
