What's the price of filter alone sir we r doing rain water harvesting 30000 liters I'm from Dindigul
@emailtomachi5 жыл бұрын
Wow! You are absolute champion. 30, 000 liters is 5 times what we have - that is an olympic size swimming pool. Good luck. I had to hire a plumber to get this completed as we re-routed the water-drain pipes from the terrace. This cost us 11K including the water filter (~4K). The filter we used is no longer marketed. You will need a different filter type if your inflow into the 30K storage is from a large catchment. But you have a mega project on hand. Wish you the very best Mr. Raja!

The water coming off the filter is like the steam coming off the pressure cooker. If there is in-flow more than what the filter can process, then the water will continue to jet off the overflow.

SIR WHEN i store rain water in ground floor tank, fishy smell is coming from water. how to remove that bad smell from water ? 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
@emailtomachi4 ай бұрын
Oh that's odd. Possible reasons: 1 There are some rains that has that odour in the rain itself. So let the flush out - do not store such 2 The terrace where the rain water is captured is home to birds, cats and rodents during non-rain seasons. So get that cleaned at minimum before season.Ideally one should let the first rain flush out without storing. 3 The sump tank too can contribute to smell due to algae formation within the sump. Get this cleaned every 3 months. Use Potassium permanganate 0.01% if possible. This acts as bactericidal keeping it cleaner and possibly odor free.

I have some questions please answer. What's the capacity of sump and how much it cost? How often you change the filter?
@emailtomachi5 жыл бұрын
The sump has a 6K ltr capacity. My neighbours have implemented with a 3K ltr sump. So capcity is dependent on the number of persons at home. The sump may cost between 30K to 50K based on the capacity, and the piping, fitting and filter can add upto 11K to 15K. The filter is washable/re-usable. The water quality coming out of the filter has not degraded over time.

Not just rain water, any kind of water, vehicle cleaning water, dish cleaning water, toilet water, a part of drainage water, etc., can be used, harvested daily.
@emailtomachi5 жыл бұрын
Agree, and very nicely articulated in your comment. The practice we have, and the usage: 1. First rain of the season: Do not capture this, let this wash out the dust and soil from the catchment area (typically the terrace) 2. The collected water in the underground tank (sump) is pumped to a over-head tank. The water in the over-head tank supplies into the bath-room/geyser/sinks in the house. The water inlet into the kitchen is given to an aqua-guard UV light. Water from the UV treated is stored in small SS tank in the kitchen that fairly is filled every morning for kitchen use. It is in use this way for about 9yrs now. All doing well, and we may have kept some money in our pocket left after paying for the water bill.;)

How will u divert the excess water after ur tank gets filled up completely. Just out of curiosity what is that ball kinda thing inside the storage. Is it the one which stops the inflow ?
@emailtomachi5 жыл бұрын
If the tank is filled up; you have had a fantastic yield. Depending on the number of folks in the household, you may have water for upto two weeks. Please pat your back and everyone in the household for such responsibility in water management. But to your question - what happens to water coming in? 1. You can use the 'red lever' on the filter to make the water drain out with the cut-off vaulve built into the filter. 2. You may not be home when it rains so water flows off the lid in the sump. The ball valve is for the corporation supplied water. In case the sump is full it will automatically stop the corporation water coming into the sump.

Excellent sir, Black Box has any maintaince? I can get it in shops where plumbing items are available right?
@emailtomachi5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the filter in the blackbox has to be washed once in a while, also there is a drain vent in the filter to keep the filter free from water and mould formation during non-rain season. If in Bangalore please go to chickpet, but any store that sells hardware will have PVC pipes, and the related valves to operate the water flow. A plumber is a good start, this is not a DYI project

Is it the filter tap that's pouring the filtered water on the floor and then the water on floor is running to rain water harvesting tank? I didn't understand the design!
@emailtomachi5 жыл бұрын
1. First rain of the season: Do not capture this, let this wash out the dust and soil from the catchment area (typically the terrace) 2. The rain drain pipes from the terrace are all connected into a bigger diameter PCV pipe to bring multiple outlets from the terrace into a single conduit 3. This single conduit is the fed as inlet into the filter (the black thinkg) 4. The outlet from the filter is flowing into the sump (the outlet runs underground before reaching the sump in the video) 5. The little stream running out is a 'excess flow' think of this as the weight that releases the steam in a pressure cooker. 6. All doing well, and we may have kept some money in our pocket left after paying for the water bill.

There are better filters today: www.amazon.in/s?k=Rainway-Rainwater-Filter-1500-Catchment&ref=nb_sb_noss The water jet from the filter is a way to regulate the extreme flow into the filter. Think of it as a 'pressure release' in a cooker

emailtomachi - I stored rainwater in a tank after passing through a 40 micron filter but still after 1-2 weeks the water had a strange smell. How do you handle this problem?
@emailtomachi2 жыл бұрын
My hearty congratulations @atharjb in starting off on the Nobel way of living alongside nature. To ward off smell and over loading filter. I have allowed the first two rains to drain off (do not store) and on further rains, store and then take the stored water through UV and active charcoal filtering (aquaguard). The known way to remove any smell in water is to make it run through active charcoal. See if such option/hack is there in the filter you are employing

This is only collecting rain water and filling sump. But harvesting means you should charge ground water table. When you put concrete at bottom of sump, how you can charge ground water ? For that you need well.
@emailtomachi5 жыл бұрын
Sure, its a way one wants to interpret the harvest. One way to harvest is by consuming directly by storing, or via bore-well by charging the ground water table. Agree with you, some of the folks in my area have implemented to charge the bore-well rather than consuming directly. Maybe that is a better option as you say.

This water from the sump is filtered via the Ultra-Violet water purifier before consumption. We are consuming the same water for drinking and cooking! 3. There will be many questions that come when we want to change our existing and accepted system.
