I've watched so many videos on how to adjust the LEFT STOP and this is the best (and only one!) that actually goes in to adjusting that left stop without digging up the sprinkler!. Thank you a thousand times over for making this video. Can you believe that after about 30 videos and a zillion google searches, your video is the only one discussing that topic? Go you guys!!! You saved me from digging up sprinkler heads after installing a new system myself.

Thanks, well done video, it's time to upgrade my +20 yrs. old sprinklers. A few years ago I upgraded the controller with a b-hyve smart controller but I still have the original sprinklers, most have been replaced at some point but now I see these new Rainbird R-VAN, tempting, specially some of my sprinklers are sticking out after being used.
@SmartIrrigation110 ай бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The R-VANs are excellent and offer a lot of improvements in efficiency and coverage to standard spray nozzles. If you make any upgrades, be sure to keep us posted!

Rotors are usally as efficient as R vans but I'm sure you have your reasons but that is something I would rarely do. I do however change sparys to rotators quite often.

Do these water in close around the head too, or just far out so around the base it will be dry? What about the old RN? Thanks.
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
The HE-VAN nozzles do a better job at watering close by the head, but no sprinkler waters evenly along its entire coverage, which is why proper design is for head to head coverage so that these differences get evened out

Can you replace old fixed head nozzles with Rvan heads - 20 yr old sprinkler system.
@SmartIrrigation19 ай бұрын
Typically yes, you can, as long as the spray body has a removable nozzle and the same threads. If your spray bodies are rainbird 1800s, then you definitely can. Just be careful about watering rates because RVAN nozzles water slower than the old spray heads. Check out our "watering times" article website at www.smartirrigation.com for more information on precipitation rates!

Are these the best solution to water into a boxed vegetable garden? Looking for a fine mist sprayer, not interested in putting a thing in the vegetable box
@SmartIrrigation17 ай бұрын
These are a very good solution for watering a garden box, and is what we would use if you didn't want drip within the box. Other options would be drip micro-sprays (although they spray less far), and spray nozzles are another option but generally we prefer these rotators. Hopefully that helps, and let us know how it goes!

Great video! I just purchased 7 of these R-Van nozzles in various varieties to completely replace a zone that has spray nozzles. The coverage in this zone has been terrible since Day 1. I'm hoping these R-Vans will help solve my problem. One thing I noticed is my heads are positioned too far into the yard along the driveway edge. They are almost a whole foot into the yard so the whole edge along the driveway burns out unless I have the heads spray into the driveway. Seems inefficient to me. I think my installer was concerned about cars driving over the heads but a whole foot seems excessive. Are these bodies easy to dig up and move maybe 6 inches back?
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Hopefully these help your coverage issues! And the heads should be closer to the edge, as you suspect. You could dig them up and use a 6-inch swing joint to move them the 6 inches fairly easily.

You turn the riser to set the left stop. It has an audible clicking sound. Looks like you turned it both directions. Or is it only supposed to be turned one direction?
@SmartIrrigation19 ай бұрын
You may turn it either way which is good if you turn it to far one dirction.

I've look everywhere for a demonstation of connecting a sprinkler head's side inlet. The few videos that show a sprinkler head with a side inlet either don't use it (capped) or it's already attached at the start of the video, and they do something else with the sprinkler head. A bottom connection is eay (just spin the head), but how do you connect a side inlet?
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
We use what is called a "swing joint" Hunter brand ourselves. You can see what one looks like demonstrated in our Hunter vs Rainbird spray heads video using this link kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6jdiWCIhLx1oqc. But installing it in the ground can be a bit of a pain; you need a pretty big hole since you need to thread it on end -over-end. We'll look at putting a video on this in the future! Thanks for the suggestion!!

I did not see the part where the right stop was adjusted .it only showed how to adjust the ark by pushing down on the beige ring and then later by twisting the rotory adjustment it did the same thing adjusting the ark or distance. When the video started it was already shooting at 180°. Am I missing something?
@SmartIrrigation18 ай бұрын
The right stop is adjusted by pressing down on the beige ring (2:40 in the video), where we adjust from 90 degrees to 180 degrees, then down to 0 degrees, then back up again. The distance is adjusted by the black side ring that is below the colored top ring (3:25 in the video). If you are using rotary nozzles that do no have that black side ring to adjust the distance, you would have Gen 1 rotary nozzles, which adjust differently. And remember, the left stop does not get adjusted, you need to set that by ratcheting the riser stem of the spray body itself, as shown in 1:37 in the video.

They don't come preset maxed out. I've been fighting them for hours thinking I screwed up my irrigation numbers
@SmartIrrigation18 ай бұрын
According to rainbird, and our experience, they do come factory preset for their maximum distance. You can check their install guide here: www.rainbird.com/media/4486, where it says "The factory default setting is the maximum range for each model." However, they might not have in your case. It would be interesting to see if this was an anomaly with a certain batch, or if rainbird has changed their setting procedure without updating their literature. Thanks for letting us know and we'll keep an eye out

Do you have a preference between the Rainbird and Hunter rotary efficient sprinklers? I’m doing a new install on my backyard and don’t know pros and cons between products
@SmartIrrigation111 ай бұрын
They both have their pros and cons and are both very good nozzles. Because the Hunter has a lower precipitation rate it is my preference as a professional but Rain Bird may be easier for the DIY installers because of the better versatility of the nozzles, meaning less different types are needed in a typical installation. We do have an article at smartirrigation.com to help you with the Rainbird rotary design.

is it easy to replace a 5000 rotor with a. Rvan? I just had 5000 installed everywhere and a few of them shoot too far, even after trying different nozzles. I would try the radius screw, but then it shoots too wide spraying my siding (my grass is fairly close to siding) I'm thinking rvan will be a good solution.
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
An rvan does sound like the right solution, but they aren't a direct swap. Rvans are a nozzle that goes onto a spray body, whereas 5000 rotors are a single piece unit. Also, the inlet for a 5000s is 3/4 in, whereas the inlet for spray bodies is 1/2 in. But the swap can be done. Just not a 1 minute job.

Great vid! The only thing they all still lack is, how the heck to change the filter basket. I broke an old nozzle by trying to pinch/twist the thing to get it off... ???
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, and that is a really good suggestion about the filters. Since they are attached to the nozzles, it can be difficult to swap them, especially if they are old. They do just pop on and off the plastic nubs on the nozzle, but you are definitely right that it isn't very easy. We'll see if we can add that to an install / repair video using these R-VAN nozzles in the future. Take care!
@InCountry69705 ай бұрын
Do they require more adjustment than the old style head ? Do they fit the standard Rainbird pop up bodies Do they justify changing out all your heads at a cost of two to three times more than the old style heads. They may save water but that means you are not watering your lawn as much. Reviews state they do not shoot the water (radius) as far as old heads Your video should really cover these details
@SmartIrrigation12 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! This video wasn't really a review or comparison to old heads, but just an instruction video on how to set them. But if you're interested in a comparison or review video let us know and we can make one of those as well!
