Chris from Smartirrigation.com shows the smart way to adjust the spray pattern on a Hunter PGP Ultra rotor. These adjustments work on all residential Hunter rotors, including the PGP, PGP Ultra, and PGJ, as well as the Orbit Voyager II. Chris also warns against tempting shortcuts that can cause costly damage to your sprinklers.

I've seen numerous vids on how to set the Hunter rotor right stop and no one explained it better than you. No one mentioned that there is an official Hunter method and an acceptable alternate method. No one said to not use channel locks on the shaft but I always wondered about that. Thank u.

Thank you Chris! I guess my question was, is it possible to use the “unofficial way“ to rotate the shaft COUNTERclockwise if the right stop is too far right. It looks with Rainbird 5000 you can rotate the shaft in both directions when adjusting the stop. What is your experience? Thanks again for your time!
@SmartIrrigation1
@SmartIrrigation1 2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. We do it all the time. It's similar to setting a pop-up spray head that way.
@danbryda3849
@danbryda3849 2 жыл бұрын
When using the unofficial way I presume you don’t have to hold the ribbed part below the shaft when turning…since it won’t affect how it’s secured into the housing?

What if the right fixed stop is too far to the right? How do you adjust? Thanks!
@SmartIrrigation1
@SmartIrrigation1 2 жыл бұрын
Two methods. First try turning the whole head in the ground. If that doesn't work you can remove the inside cartridge from the case by unscrewing it, then reposition it where you want and tighten the cartridge back into the case.

Thank you! I noticed my Hunter PGP will automatically rotate from right to left but then get stuck at the left. If I rotate it a bit more left, it will swing back to the right. However, several heads are sticking to the left (maybe not rotating to the full left stop). What is going on here?
@SmartIrrigation1
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
It sounds like the gears inside these heads are stuck or broken. Since these heads aren't designed to be opened or taken apart, unfortunately it sounds like you will need to replace these heads.

Thanks BUT I don't get how to set the left stop by turning the head with out unscrewing from pipes below. Mine is going to far to the left - are you saying hold the shaft AND turn the head to the desired position?
@SmartIrrigation1
@SmartIrrigation1 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Sometimes when you set the left stop the body can unscrew below, so in this case you would want to adjust the left stop by turning it almost a full 360 degrees clockwise (clockwise will only tighten the body below, so you don't need to worry about anything loosening). This is done by turning the riser/stem/shaft itself (not the nozzle on top or the sprinkler body below).

By saying it reduces the arc makes it sound like you are either increasing or decreasing how far it flows,, I was told the colored nozzles adjusts the arc length

Thanks for watching! For the video we decided to use the actual terms used to describe the parts of a circle since these heads water in a circle (or part of a circle). So the radius of the circle is the length of the spray, and the arc of the circle is what portion of the circle is being watered (such as 90° arc, 180° arc, etc). This is typically the language used by manufactures as well. But I totally understand the confusion! I sometimes think of arc as distance as well (like the arc on an arrow, but then im not thinking in terms of a circle). Sorry for the confusion, we just though if there is going to be confusion one way or another, the technical language would be proper. But well try to make that more clear in future videos. Also you are right, the nozzles change how far the sprinkler shoots (which would be its radius).

So in order to have less right rotation, would I need to spin the head all the way around to the right or can you twist it left?
@SmartIrrigation1
@SmartIrrigation1 Жыл бұрын
If you need it to stop sooner in the right direction you would turn the stem or riser (not the top) to the left. Then with the Hunter key reajust the left stop. So twist to left is correct.

Guys please help. The system comes on, I have the best arc, almost a perfect 180deg. But the water comes out like a fire hose! How do I adjust it to make it spray and not stream? Please help!

Sounds like you are using too large of a nozzel. Try a smaller one or get an professional to check your system in person.

I thought reducing the arc, means reducing the flow, not how far left it turns till it stops?

How do you turn the head off? I want my system to run but one head is malfunctioning so I am needing to turn off a single head
@SmartIrrigation1
@SmartIrrigation1 3 жыл бұрын
Replace the malfunctioning head would be my first choice because there is no easy way to turn off just one PGP. Remove and cap it at the fitting in the ground if no longer needed but be carful because it could affect the coverage.

My heads are rotating a full 360, it seems.
@SmartIrrigation1
@SmartIrrigation1 8 ай бұрын
Some heads are only 360 degree heads, designed to only spray in a full circle. However, if you have an adjustable PGP, you should be able to use the tool and turn it counter clockwise in the adjustment slot to reduce the arc of the circle that it waters. Hope this helps!
