I remember when David landed this gig. He was the buzz of JPS High School. It was really odd seeing him shopping at the Menlo Park Mall back in the day...nice guy :)

FUN!!! David was having a blast up there doing what he does best and enjoys the most! Thank goodness for Ritchie giving him five while he breaks for a drink - the crowd loved it - hell, it’s still awesome today, especially the finale with the rapid mods! Only a real, bona fide synth master could pull that shit off! Those were not easy synthesizers to play by any means! 🤘

Momentarily line-up looks like the worst in the history of the band - Jens Johanssen and his stratovarius sound of keyboards (all playing on synthetizer) he'll ruins all great solos by Carey, Rosenthal or Airey, other members of the band are unknown and Romero's voice is incredible bad! Where the hell is Joe Lynn Turner???

The problem is that mainstream rock and metal has rejected keyboards in the last 25 years so there are not as many people playing hence the sub par standard

That may equate to 3 keyboards today. Back then each synth was beyond unique in their sonic characteristics. This was also when monophonic synthesizers were just really segueing to polyphonic. You were limited as to how many notes you could play back in the monophonic day. It’s funny as David is using an Oberheim OB-Xa which was their second gen polyphonic synth and is likely the centerpiece in what we’re hearing. I read that he used the DSX with it and that was a pre-MIDI buss! Rainbow used the Clavinet and Minimoog which you just couldn’t replicate the sounds, especially the Minimoog. The Minimoog is super cool as it’s been used on countless hits over decades. So, oddly, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, it’s actually not an overkill in the slightest. 🤘😂

Not really lol. The synths he had in his setup were the super heavy hitters of the time...He probably had 50,000 bucks in early 80's dollars worth of synths/keys on that stage, likely more. That blue one sold for 8-10,000 in 1981(emulator). That one yes today is replaced by more powerful samplers but the vintage analog....fuggedaboutit! Just for reference, that Oberheim OBXA sells used for 4 to 5,000 bucks today. Looks like he's got a Minimoog on there, a memorymoog.....go on ebay and see what those vintage ones sell for today lol;) Those are classics and are well sought after to this day. That's just three of them lol.
