Rainbow S15E20 (1984) - FULL EPISODE

The Weekend. Geoffrey's still in bed and Bungle's worried that he's going to be late for work, and having given you the title of the episode, you can work out the punchline for yourself. But they don't drag the joke out for the whole show, and soon valuable lessons are learned about work days in contrast to leisure days. Meanwhile, Rod, Jane and Freddy drop in for a quick song about 'I Spy'.
If you read the end credits of this episode - which was originally broadcast on Friday, 25th May, 1984 - you'll notice that it was actually written by Geoffrey Hayes himself. I haven't spoken about Geoffrey on here properly since he passed away last autumn, but I know by a long way I wasn't the only one saddened to hear the news. By all accounts he never really intended to be a children's presenter, and for a while he still held out hopes of 'serious' acting roles, but ultimately I gather he was happy enough to accept his role of Kids' TV Legend™, and will be fondly remembered by more than one generation. While obviously tongue-in-cheek, I think this sums it all up nicely (skip to 26.28):

One of the last times I saw Geoffrey on TV was on Pointless Celebrities (which he won with Sally James), but did you know that he also hosted a short-lived GMTV show in the mid-90s, which becomes very familiar if you close your eyes?:

My dad, my mum and my Religion teacher at school all watched this growing up. I also watched this on KZbin when I was younger (thanks to my parents telling me of this show’s existence) I remember being quite sad when I got the news that Geoffrey Hayes had died back in September 2018

The company that owns them aren't really interested in making them available, unfortunately, so we've got to make do with what we can find ourselves.

FYI - No she isn't. She was married to Rod, they divorced in 1979 but continued working together. Freddy joined in 1980. They slowly fell in love and started going out together in 1985. WITH ROD'S BLESSING! So don't call her that thanks

A few years ago I went to see 'Rainbow Live - Zippy Superstar DJ' with the equally late Mr Skelton still voicing Zippy and George and an all new presenter who coped admirably. I was perturbed there was no mention at all of Geoffrey at the time. After the show I asked about this omission and upon asking permission to do the show Mr Hayes had suggested this state of affairs to allow the new presenter to enjoy the full glory and not be compared in any way or detract from his performance - when you consider at the time Geoffrey's probable low financial status that speaks volumes. RIP Geoffrey.

I don’t understand why Bungle wears PJs for bed but goes around naked through the day!!! Interestingly the announcement about Rainbow books at the end seems to be pre-recorded by Tom Edwards, as he clearly wasn’t duty announcer at Thames that day.
