2:00 Sooty and Button Moon mentioned on Rainbow. Three shows my dad watched growing up mashed into one video

All made by Thames, of course.

I’m that user on a different account. Even though I was born in 2006, my dad used to go on about Sooty, Rainbow and Button Moon around me when I was younger. I ended up watching those on KZbin (through uploads like this one) and I loved all three. I was also quite a big TV fanatic growing up (particularly old TV), and I used to watch old BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 continuities and closedowns on KZbin as well.

Boom in shot is quite common in classic TV from the days of 4:3 ratio. I'm not as technically savvy as others may be on the subject, but I understand that TV's of the day had a varying degree of an overspill area. When you watch these shows on modern equipment, you see areas around the edges that many TV's wouldn't display. As such, it was considered a safety zone back when the shows were made. Old tellies cropped the picture so much in some cases, that it was particularly noticeable with the clocks which appeared in the corner of breakfast TV. Some TV's cropped them half out of shot, or even completely.

97channel You're absolutely right - we never used to see the very edges of the picture, and some TVs these days still have an "overscan" setting for just such an issue. And that's before we even get to the rounded corners!

Oi - you leave the poor guy alone! You know he hasn't been the same since the 'incident' in the furniture factory: i.pinimg.com/736x/3b/bf/e4/3bbfe4ddd8beba9004919c53c1c309fe.jpg

We had a b/w TV in the 80's. For years I thought George was a sheep, I was shocked to discover he was actually a hippo.

That's brilliant! Mind you, neither b/w nor colour helps anyone figure out exactly what Zippy is...
