Fine demonstration of the quality of aerospace grade materials. Every part and material is fully spec, tested, and manufactured accordingly. If the designer does their job correctly, you can feel confident that you have a connection that will withstand the intended loading.

Was referred here by a 3d printing article and i love how you find uses for it in so many ways. I enjoy the peek into aviation too.

3D printing has come a long way. Slick li'l load cell holder made with a printer. *Collected some great data. Nice work.

Absolutely cool as a cucumber when those pieces broke.

That is very interesting - thank you!

Not proper test. Need part fixed at one end, to meter the hydraulic fluid much slower. Best to log both the stress and length of the part. Metal will yield and then fail. You want to know if metal is yielding.

Thanks for your comments. As I mentioned in the comments section, we still have a bunch of modifications to do to this fixture to make it a truly useful tool. That wasn't really the point of this video. The entire test fixture was made out of scrap parts left line around the shop. None of the data is useful other than from a comparative analysis. All of these components will fail in compression long before we reach yield. And even if that wasn't a factor. There is a safety factor of of each one of these subassemblies is nearly 10. All of that being said, we will eventually spend the money to make the tool a bit more useful. The pressure regulator to regulate the hydraulic fluid costs more than the entire set up that we used in this video. As always. We do appreciate you watching the video and commenting.
