Abstract:
They work the fragment in parts, separating the instruments two by two. Professor Schmidt speaks of the character of each line and of melodic and harmonic aspects. Phrasing must always have a direction and a development. They speak of the contrast between the parts and the need for a deep sonority on the bass, as the bells in a Mahler's symphony.
