That is a donkey engine, used in logging to move trees to one area for transport to a sawmill. In the woods in the Pacific Northwest, you can often find the log bases that they once sat on. I have only seen the engines in logging museums now. Great piece of logging history. Thanks for the videos, and you and Fin have a Merry Christmas!

That was an old steam donkey, used for dragging logs from where they're fell to a landing where they were further bucked to length or decked to be transported to a mill eventually. It's very old and they were very powerful and dangerous. Wouldn't pass an OSHA inspection nowadays. For crabbing in shallow water, it' best to be where freshwater flows in like from a creek. Place your traps out far enough that they sit in salt water but close enough that the fresh and salt are still mixing. Try to keep your traps in 60ft deep or less to around 30ft. After 60ft the sun's light dissipates so the less feed there is. I've seen it countless times scuba diving and crabbing both in the area Gregs in. Damn I love these episodes with Greg and Joe because of their style. So much better than city "wanta be" campers with all of their REI and Cabela gear, prissy camping and pooping in plastic bags and portable battery powered bidets.

You beat me to it its a steam donkey, looks like its been restored . Growing up on the Olympic Peninsula there were still a few of them around in logging museums, or every now and then you would find privately owned ones that were mostly rusted junk. They were temperamental and dangerous for sure.
