Brilliant video Raymond. Thought when refilling the gearbox pan if you'd taken that level plug out underneath and put your drain machine below as you put fluid in the top you could stop as soon as it started to dribble out. Rather then overfill and then remove plug and letting it settle to the level. Less waste. Always enjoy your vids. Stay safe 👍👍

This is what made me decide a different career path was for me. Back in the mid 90's I was doing a tranny pan and filter on a 1500 Silverado with the 700r4. As I was unscrewing the last bolt to release the pan, one of the guys tapped me on the shoulder. Needless to say, lots of expletives were let loose and fluid found places were I think there is still some there to this day. I'm a better IT guy anyway, so thanks for the bad flashback Ray, LOL.

Not having a drain hole/bolt is just uncivilized! My 80's Mercedes has one on its ATF pan. I have converted our fleet's Durango (46RE) and Econoline (4R70W or something) to pans with drain holes. (Dorman for the Dodge (it's fine !) and and an actual Ford part for the van.

@@redrider7730 I have a Fumoto valve on my cheap Dorman stamped steel pan and it's a nice 'n tidy way to drain 1 gallon of ATF so I can add four fresh quarts. I used to wonder how goofy it might be to do a fluid change in between normal filter change services, then I noticed that the severe duty maintenance schedule for my old Mercedes recommended exactly that. I have two Mag Hytec diff covers in the fleet and like them a lot. Never felt the urge for more fluid capacity, but still might do their pan for the Dodge at some point in the future.

I've seen a few too many of Precision Transmission's videos to be willing to accept that it's "okay" to leave the old filter neck seal in that transmission. XD You always want to pull it out and replace it with the new one that comes with the new filter! It's apparently common enough to neglect to take the old seal out before stuffing the new filter in that you end up with the seals double-stacked in a channel not designed for it, so the filter sits too low and when you bolt the pan back on it'll crack the filter neck and make the filter basically useless. Mr. Crich over at Precision Transmission uses a hook pick to get to that seal; maybe try one of those next time you gotta do a job like that. :)
@MrAnderson5157
@MrAnderson5157 Жыл бұрын
Except two seals wont fit at a time And you cannot put the pan back on if the filter isn't in all the way. Unless there's some rare instance I'm not aware of they are designed not to fit unless correct. Also the new filters only come with new seals if it's the o-ring type. Watch harder.

Shop owner/mechanic here. Get yourself a 2gal bug sprayer ( one with thick walled container). That otc trans fill kit you have should have the hose with the quick fittings in it to hook to bug sprayer hose. Drill hole in container for valve stem near top . Now you have a easy way to pressure it up to about 15lbs. Now as a shop owner - ease up on the brake cleaner that stuff is not cheap at the end of the week when you hose everything down like that.

When replacing the transmission fluid, you should take the solenoids out and clean the metal shavings from them. If too much builds up it can cause shifting problems.

Well, yes. Too much metal on the solenoids is a problem. Like metal from the planetary gears, bearing failures or other more serious issues that are the root cause of the metal. If you’re cleaning and significant metal from your trans, you have bigger problems coming.

I absolutely love when someone says my engine isn't running right sometimes(intermittent). You hook up an analyzer and there are no trouble codes. Ask the customer what they've done and they tell you "I had them clear the codes at the Auto parts store". I like to tell them to go home and drive the car until situation occurs again, then bring it back WITHOUT CLEARING CODES SO I HAVE A CLUE AS TO THE PROBLEM.

👏👏👏Ray I know that everyone does things differently. I alway take the transmission pan to the parts washer & clean the inside & outside, put the new gasket on it then install it back on the tranny, saves from using extra brake clean. After about auto manufacturers pinching pennies buy not using oil pan drain plugs, transmission fill tubes with dipsticks, before I buy a vehicle, I’ll make sure that those items are there first. Just think when you get home, your stress free
@williameldridge9382
@williameldridge9382 Жыл бұрын
The reason they removed the transmission fill tubes/dipsticks is because they are sealed transmissions. You're not supposed to even look at the transmission unless there's a problem with it. No oil changes or flushes, no maintenance at all, only repairs if something actually breaks. They are designed to be maintenance free. Also, opening the transmission yourself can void the warranty with a lot of the car manufacturers.

@@williameldridge9382 that's the biggest line of bullshit I've heard . you believe that? you think going 150k miles with the same tranny fluid is ok? no. it's not. they do it so you'll burn the tranny out after the warranty and buy a new tranny from them, or a new car or truck.

Hi Friends 👋🏻, good diagnosis. I wish more people remembered to change their trammy fluid on time to save themselves. This situation seems to be a trendy theme; old as time. That is a RAD S10, I woulda reshaped the key for him to fit. I’ve got a 00 tacoma 2.7 and I have also had ghost vibration issues with for a long time on and off and I think it is the tires. The vibration can cause other components to fail as well. Any thoughts on small 2WD rwd pickup vibrations? Note that when measuring hot Tran fluid, if it is too hot to touch it may have expanded and cold fluid will measure less.
