The real gem of the day as you already know is your wonderful bride helping you dry everything off 👍. I wish you didn’t feel the need to make your disclaimer about not bragging but then I guess you may have a few disgruntled students that complain about everything! All the best to you and your family this holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Norm in Arizona

Lyle: I know this is a bit late for your rainy day buys,. Get a large cardboard box, and a cheap hair dryer. Cut 2 inch holes, one in the side and one in the top of the box. Put all the towel dried tools in the box and close it up. Point the hair dryer into the side hole and turn it on low. Let everything "cook" for an hour or so. Sure worked for me. Thanks for the video. Jon

These auctions/treasure hunts are what keeps your blood pumping. Nothing more fun than when you are bidding on items. Even when you don’t come out as high bidder. I’m an auction nut myself. Plenty of times I’ve been caught up in the action and paid more than I wished for stuff I didn’t need. Keep doing what you are doing Mr. Pete.

It's astounding how much measuring equipment was made over the years. Even more mind boggling is how much of it got relatively little or no use and sold off at auction years later. However I am thankful for it, I have saved many dollars buying the tools I need to work second hand. Cheers Mr Pete. PS.... A poncho? You mean to tell me they still have those? Heh Heh!

What's the point of going out finding this cool old stuff if you can't shoe it off and share it with people who enjoy it. By the way, who ever reads this. The only auctions in northern Iowa are farm auctions with hay racks full of rusty tools in boxes that have lived in farm machine sheds for a couple lifetimes. I am not sure what I will do with all this extra credit I am getting by watching these videos but I am sure if I took all of it and a $5.00 bill I could buy a fancy coffee that looks more like a milkshake than coffee. The "Machinist's Bedside Reader" in three volumes is both informative and interesting. No longer in publication, used copies in good condition (which your Volume 2 appears to be at least that, if not very good) sell for $80 and up (originally around $20 in the late 1980's): even without some of the choice items you got, you had a good morning. My full set of "Readers" sits beside my copy of "Machinery Repairman 2 & 3" (USN training manual), my 56th edition of "How to Run a Lathe" and all four volumes of Brownell's "Gunsmith Kinks."

I'm glad you mentioned how disgusted you were with the auction house letting stuff get wet - before you said anything, I knew you would be - as am I. We have the 'Stanly 45' plane - or something very similar - including the tongue & groove cutters (+ all the set that came with it) and that simple depth gauge we saw. My comment in the 'winterising' of machines video suggesting the use of WD was writen of course tongue in cheek - yet it still puzzles me why more people don't use it for its intended purpose. The feedback on that from one person says 'it dries up' - I'm pretty sure that's the idea - to leave a thin greasy layer covering metal preventing corrosion.
