What you said about ethics around 26min in really gave me the perspective I needed to be more confident in taking pictures in public. I honestly felt that I should be quiet and non-intrusive because I didn't want to be a nuisance to those around me, but like you said; "I want to hide what I'm doing" if you are quiet, comes off more malicious and untrustworthy. By being up front and to the point, you definitely do give people that opportunity to know what you are doing and decide for themselves. Makes perfect sense. Thanks!

Thanks Victor! Glad I was able to communicate that smoothly. The ethics of street photography are a touchy subject so I'm always mindful of ruffling feathers (both in the street and online).
@bqfilms

you definitely should hide less, there's a skill lots of great street photographers develop that is being upfront yet blending with the environment so the subject doesnt even second guess you being there taking a photo, I think a great example of this is Joel Meyerowitz, he has some interviews and you can see him shooting on the street in nyc in the 80's. Another different case is Garry Winogrand, he would show his cam but would be sneaky about it by making himself seem like a noob trying to figure out how to even take a photograph. I think what is important is that you know what you are doing is not wrong, even if you are being sneaky or trying different techniques, in the end you are not hurting anyone and If they ask to delete the picture you just do! Sometimes avoiding being seen is the only way you can get the scene photographed without messing it up.

Thank you for the informative video, great combo you two, please keep it on! Alex did great on videocapturing on you and the scene to let us know whats going on, and you Lukasz have a great eye & imagination, superb shots (cyberpunk-style) and great teacher! Appreciate you explained all things going on in your mind while shooting, the settings you use, what you see & expect in the scene, learned a lot, especially not just running around but staying patient in one place, waiting for the right person to enter it. Tokyo looks fantastic, looking forward to visit it, so much going in the streets there, love the small backalleys with all these cables & machinery like the organic veins of the city, no tourists, just locals, all these colorful lights, great. Greetings from Germany, wish you two success with your eyexplore. Please keep more videos of this kind coming, love it!

Hint for using the AE-L button: it does not has to be held down for lock. In the menu, you can choose to lock with a single press, then unlock with another press. I find this way is easier for the finger. So I can perform two locks with my single thumb very swiftly: AE-L, and AF-on, at the back of the camera body. For me this is way faster and much more accurate than dialing the exposure compensation wheel.

Have you had any problems with non-weather sealed/resistant lenses shooting in the rain like shown in this video? My experience has been that the rain and snow get everywhere and if that does not kill the gear, the condensation when going back inside during the winter does. The D4 itself is fine, but to my knowledge, none of the manual focus lenses for Nikon made by Nikon or others are weather-sealed/resistant. If I'm using properly sealed gear, it's fine after it has been warming for an hour or two without opening anything, not even the memory card slot or battery door. I have killed a Sony mirrorless four times in bad weather, which is why I don't use those anymore.
@EYExplore
@EYExplore 2 жыл бұрын
The 40mm that I use in this video is not weather-sealed, but I've use it in the rain a ton and it has never been a problem. I think it might because the lens is small and with little surface area there is less chance for water to get in. I've never had a water problem with my D3/D4 with any lens over nearly 10 years of shooting with them. I've had the Z6II for about a year and used it in the rain a few times and no problem so far either.

Thanks!! Yeah we wanted it long. It's just more realistic. I was the videos to feel authentic and not 'processed'. It's like a juicy steak vs supermarket ham. We wanted to show the process of street photography, which is by it's nature drawn out and slow. So, we might make them a little bit shorter, but they'll still likely be over 20 minutes long.
