Day of Dragons returns with a new update. They've added new sounds, polished their current dragons more, Added a scent system, Corpses, and we get to see their next big up-coming dragon. The big question remains though; What happened with ALL that money raised years ago? Well, I'm very happy to see (In the second half of this video) that what appears to be most of that money was spent on custom dragons and content for the game. They're just not available yet. On the surface things look relatively the same with very real glimpses of awe inspiring dragon battles in the sky above while the reality of a game that lacks content reminds you outside of those experiences. The potential is there but it's got quite a distance to travel before that potential is realized. The real question is what you think though. So, What do you think?

Hey Anth so glad to see this vid out, I was actually on the test server when you were on looking around, the Devs told us you were recording, I though with the comment I would give some more info to the people watching this vid. Firstly the big worms, the earthy coloured one is called the sand slayer worm and will inhabit the desert dunes map when that's added in a later update, the white one is called the snow slayer worm and that will inhabit the winter winds map also to be added in a later update. Secondly the dragons you see in the test map are not all the dragons coming to the game though they are the ones with game ready models, going from left to right as you ran down the line the dragons are, the Nurse Dragon (yet to get a species name), the Ice Wyvern (Frostfel), the Fire Wyvern (Inferno Ravager), The Flame Stalker, the Shadow Scale, the Blitz Striker, the Singe Crest, the Acid Spitter and the Bioluminescent (Bio) dragon. And I think finally the names of the A.I you were looking at, the big ice like monstrosity is called a Cave Cutter and is going to inhabit the ice caves of the winter winds, the aquatic one is called a Swamp Snapper is is going to inhabit large bodies of water in the Forgotten Forest, the little rock looking thing is called a Dune Weaver and is going to inhabit the Desert Dunes and finally the little round spikey one is called the Bulbous Spined Scrab and as you saw in the vid is already in the game. The magma elemental and the Swamp Snapper are already animated they are just waiting for integration into the game as for the dragons the Inferno Ravanger is being animated at the same time the Flame Stalker the Flame Stalker is just further along though from what I can tell not that much further, there are only 2 animators and they are working on 1 dragon each when they finish one they will most likely move onto the next dragon or maybe an A.I depends on what need animating. Also just a small correction to your vid, the music was made by Ray Fernandes Jr. Simon did the creature sound effects. Anyway enough of my rambling, thank you for covering the game again and thanks to anyone who read this whole comment it was very long.

I'm going to give the game another few years before I buy, just so that they can hopefully update it a bit more for me to be willing to spend my time and money. I love the concept and I really find the dragons and all the mechanics fascinating... I'm still just kind of cautious. Thanks for showing a behind the scenes look. The Sky seems a bit empty when nobody is around. Having some ai birds could be a fun food source to catch and it trains your airial fighting skills. That would not have a need for cool monter bird, but there could also be a `food monster´ that is flying high up and is bigger, something like a dragon sized cloud whale.

the entire team hasn't learned from their mistakes at all unfortnuately. they're as toxic as ever, still banning people for even voicing a very simple concern. like how jao has now limited ping rate to 200 which has decimated near anyone who wants to play the game not close to where he hosts his server.... and he refuses to fix it. you say something about that? perma ban. and ghosted by the mods. still. he has his little favorites, and everyone else is just a money bag to get from. it's extremely sad. and i wish it wasn't so. but i've been there from the begining and seeing things just get worse and worse is ruining my hope for this game to survive :(

@@Dragonhatchie The ping latency limit only applies to pvp servers, and it was just raised up to 400ms (which is understandable, you wouldn't want to play pvp with anything higher lol), but your point still stands. The way they have reacted to criticism hasn't changed and is frankly terrible. Edit: To their credit, I've seen a few comments about the team being much more receptive to questions and professional during their last Q&A, which I haven't had a chance to watch. But again, it's just one of those things where we'll just have to wait and see what becomes of it. Time will tell one way or the other.

In all honesty I would like to see some kind of frost dragon being made with a frosty/wintery region that it’s native to where dragons that solely rely on fire would be weaker in. Basically, for example, if the Fire Stalker enters the arctic region it’s defense and such tanks making it weaker whereas the frost dragons would be stronger. Plus, since it is a frost dragon, it would be harder for the Fire Stalker to locate with its thermal vision since it relies on the cold and such making it not appear on thermal vision.

@@ethanyang8702 Well the reason why I recommend the arctic-like region as well is because, if they do add weather into the game, then it would also give them an advantage because, for example, if a blizzard were to roll you it could be the case of the other types of dragons not being able to see much in the blizzard whereas the frost dragon could have a significant amount of visibility in it. This would basically make the frost dragons have a safe haven-like region for them since, outside of their region, they would likely be more vulnerable to the Fire Stalker.

There will be whole maps dedicated for species such as fire based species or species that belong in that biome. If you have seen the game at all, in the vitals tab there is a section where it has "temperature" and "comfort". So assuming, once the new map and dragons gets added. The Flamestalker will be in the Lavalands, and so the Temperature may be "Hot" and the Comfort may say "Comfortable." While if you see a Flamestalker in the Forgotten Forest, temperature may say "cool" and the comfort may say "uncomfortable." The maps currently have: Forgotten Forest Need the: Winter Winds Lava Lands Desert Dunes They are in fact looking for map makers. Also it was said before (could have change) that the Flamestalker will not be able to detect the Frostfell (Ice Wyvern).

I was always holding out hope for DoD. I don't care which Dragon Survival game is currently doing will but as long as its a Dragon Survival game similar to the isle. Imagine the blood pumping action and battle of multiple dragon clans fighting over territory, fighting off those worm things, and hatching their children in safe places while hunting food for them. When it comes to mythical monsters, Dragons are always my favourite.

I always had faith in this game, I have been on the test server before and there is so much there. I'm very glad that lots of people are recognizing the good things coming soon to the game. One thing you didn't notice is that at 14:28, you can see a huge acid spitter near the spawning place - it's actually like a character u can interact with if u go up to it. It's like an actual AI, not just an animated model, and it says things to u, and u can respond.

I'm absolutely in love with this game! The flight physics are the best I've seen in a creature survival game, and the models and ai are a breath of fresh air to look at and see working in game. I have standards that have been raised because of the flight mechanics shown! And the scene where there were so many dragons at once... and there was no lag?? That has to be one of the best moments I've seen in DoD. And the SOUNDS! The booms of the blasts hitting far away ground and the echoes of both that, and the dragons!! I'm such a big fan of the work put in so far, I have high hopes in store for this game.

To everybody saying dod ripped off httyd read this comment. The dragon in this video is called shadowscale and is ment to heavily based off night furies and light furies since jao is a huge httyd fan, a few other dragons allso contain simmilar referances to certin popculture dragons but non as extreame. Even if shadowscale resembles toothless the devs took care to take their own unique spin on the basic toothless design by mixing it with skink elements wich is a thing with a few other designs for instance : -blitzstriker is basically a skrill but a snake, same logic as shadowscale, put a diffrent spin on a allready existing dragon idea, -The singecrest follows the same design philosophies as banshees from avatar to act as a referance to them and even has a skin to referance the big flying thing from the movie, -flamesalkers head was loosely based off smaug wich is a neat detail, Overall no, those designs aren't outright ripoffs as they don't shy away from their inspirations nor try to hide it, they are more focused on making a unique spin on a previously established dragon idea.

To be fair the only real similarities is the abilities and silhouette. If it was a serious case of copyright then Dreamworks would have sued on the spot. I do see why people are upset about the shadow scale being so similar to the night fury but at the same time I can see there’s just about enough difference between the two species (it really does fail the silhouette test though). At this rate any dragon that’s got a short snout, can turn invisible and fires plasma shots is gonna be labelled a night fury clone just because httyd is so well known and popular. Got a dragon that breathes fire? It’s a X clone of this dragon from httyd. Again I see why people are upset about the shadow scale and what not but I’m also sick of the constant comparisons.

Like for example the up coming FS, I COULD compare it to Safi jiva from MHW! But all they have in common is horns, red scales and the literal model skeleton.

As someone who hasn’t followed the development at all, but is an advid lover of dragons and 3D modeling and animation: this looks like it will be incredible! I think part of why there was an issue with concerns for a scam, is that they have been spending the same amount of time (if not more) working on this as any mainstream video game makers would have. But mainstream developers get anonymity that indie developers can’t. So I’m not surprised that they have had some difficulty with keeping a balance between keeping people who helped fund them up to date, while still trying to keep surprises and all kinds of shit that comes with alpha (beta?) development stages.

No, part of why there was an issue with concerns for a scam is because it is a scam. At the very least, it started out as one. And people with Jao's "personality" (if you can even call it that) don't just change their entire core overnight. I think he just learned to keep his mouth shut and fool people better. That sand worm has actually been in the game since 2019. When it first came out we use to be able to play as the worm a little bit though it wasnt the best. The Lava golem (much larger than current model) was also in the game however it was only as a "dead" statue frozen in place after a battle with a dragon much much larger than a Fire Stater Elder.

they haven't gotten their act together.... all of this has been here for a year and a half now. which should mean it's in the game and it isn't. the entire team is still toxic af. the few favorites he has as attack dogs are all too happy to get special perks, be immune from warnings, get off situations that anybody else gets perma banned instantly for.... being here from the begining and seeing this all still happen- and get worse each week.... it's sickening. and very sad. we all just want a good dragon game and instead we're getting knockoff movie dragons, a game updating slower than a baby snail crawling.... and an entire community that will outright hunt you down should you ask why you cant connect to the server.

I wouldn’t recommend it yet, there’s only 2 dragons to choose from and they both get boring quick. Right now it’s just a clan game where the biggest clans farm blue shrooms and get the most elders/“most power” and not let anyone else get them.

If the lack of playables isn't a problem (wich either way will be fixed in a bit) nor the pretty bare bones map and you are just searching for a game that can be fun(if the elders don't curbstomp you) go for it. A lot of the ones called ripoffs by some are ment to be direct heavily inspired referances to famous pop culture dragons, i picked up on a few of those referances: -shadowscale is a kick starter founded dragon based off httyd since jao is a huge httyd fan, -blitzstriker is basically a snake skrill hybrid, a pretty unique take, -flamesalkers head was loosely based off smaug, -The singecrest follows the design style of avatar to referance the banshee,

I am sure that they're working on everything and the assets you saw are amazing. But its still horrendous what they did to their player base, and its taking them YEARS to even show a little of where the money is going, or even any progress. Sure they needed money to get started, but to have so little for so long after so much money was poured into them years ago, I still think its a scam. When they get a whole lot more in the game, I'll be buying it, but my heart goes out to the people that put chunks of cash into it, and see very little. I'd be fuming, demanding money back if after a few years I didn't even have a completed map or close to a completed map to play on.

The last time I tried DoD, trying to fly and get off the ground was one of the hardest things I had ever had to do. The second was trying to get off the ground, coupled with the fact the server I was on had half the players playing land-runner trying to down any of the flying dragons and then run all over the biomes trying to eat the hatchlings. Flying really was a chore.

I think it is safe to say that this proves the scam story false. I was suspicious of the "fact file" from the get go due to things like the backdooring into steam shit, but that could have been dismissed as sunken cost fallacy since I was a backer. But its nice to know now for sure that it was all bs made for the sake of drama money. Not really. Jao received 500k with the goal to make 3 base dragons (model & animation). He's already run out of kickstarter money (he uses the patreon now to pay the animators, and he can only afford to pay them part-time which is why progress is so slow) while only having 1 of those 3 dragons in the game, and even that is incomplete. He also misused the kickstarter money to produce microtransactions (2 DLCs, even more on the way) and a soundtrack nobody asked for.

@@robertrodriguez1788 I can, I am part of a clan on pvp, and the game is less about the dragons, and more about how the clans interact with each other. Adding more stuff to the game will be fun sure, but it’s not going to change how Pvp is unless they start adding rules or things that prevent mass Kosing. For example, when they add the Flame Stalker, it will change how SS hide of corse, but it’s not going to change the rivalry and kosing that is harming the game already. It’s incredibly competitive and can only be played if you are part of a clan. New players and players who want to be alone don’t have a chance of rising in genetic status or even living that long.

Yeah don't trust the game yet. They're still doing extremely shady practices (i.e. producing and selling DLCs with kickstarter funding instead of working on the kickstarter goals), paywalling updates on the progress and hiding important information (i.e. they didn't inform the public about letting 2 animators go due to lack of funding for several months until people started asking whether said animators still worked for DoD, or that Karly only works a few hours a week on DoD because she's a fulltime lead animator for a major movie company)

So, I ended up backing the game when I saw one of your first videos on it back in 2019. I had faith only because I want to believe the best in people, but I'm really glad I held on, even if it seems silly. I haven't played it in a couple weeks because of school, but the flying is smooth, and playing running/hunting with the Acid Spitter is super fun imo! I think I'm going to stay away for a while because of college. Also, idk if you already know this or not, but for the next time you play as Shadowscale (if you remember) you can use the space bar to slow down! It helps a lot! I'm extremely excited for the Zyagavo Dragon, aka the Feathered Dragon, since it's supposed to be the smallest dragon + the fastest to grow + it eats eggs! The Egg that was camouflaged (I believe) is a Nurse Dragon egg! The Bioluminescent dragon is also supposed to be super fun, and the concept art I've seen looks great! The long snake looking dragon that you saw concept art for as a loading screen is called the Blitz Striker! I also think they showed us a model before, I can't quite recall though. It may be making slow progress, but I'm pretty certain the team is just very small. I also think they're looking for another 3D modeler or animator to hire, so they're trying to make good progress! All in all, I'm excited for the game to grow! I'm not to worried about how long it will take since, again, I believe the team is a bit on the small side of I remember correctly, as well as for the fact that small progress is still progress! I'm ***Really*** excited for the Zygavo and Bioluminescent dragons!

I was recently looking into a game and have been searching for somewhat long term game with friends, with the progress they have made its rather slow but there dedication definitely shows, i understand why its also been slow because no one can spend a vast amount of time(a healthy amount) just working on a game but its good to know that they have some very good progress. Maybe in the future, when its fleshed out, they can give the ability to harvest, dig(like a little hut for nests) and several ideas to expand on. First, thank you Anthomnia for this video! You gave great feedback and were respectable while doing so. The concept for this game is great, people love dragons... like a lot. I know there has been a lot of drama, but I am still excited to see where this game goes because, with good communication with the game's audience and hard work, this game can go far. This video was great because I got to see some of the developers take feedback and show what they have been working on, which is very important for any game. I definitely would like to see more communication because as all game designers/developers should know, that is literally one of the most, if not the most, important things when you are trying to make a successful game. Your audience is your greatest source of ways to improve and can offer some really good ideas. Using their feedback to your advantage can only be beneficial. This is the main developer's first game, and so far it looks very promising, especially compared to others I have seen. Making games is by no means easy and it is extremely expensive, not to mention time-consuming. As long as they improve communication and stay away from any more controversies, they can take this game as far as they want with a strong fanbase backing them. I know hearing criticism on something you have worked hard on can be tough (oh boy, trust me), but once you realize it is to help you and can make you even better you become hungry for it, they aren't trying to personally attack you. You can look at any successful game as an example. If you are making the game for your own enjoyment, then yeah, screw communication, but if you want to have people buy it and enjoy it, then definitely keep their experience in mind. They are your community, not your enemy. I say this with only good intentions because I really want to see them succeed, they all very obviously have the talent to do so.

i would really love to see a POI in the game that is like a human or dwarven walled city with catapults, trebuchets, and ballistas ready to attack dragons that come too close, but the humans near the walled city and its farms would be very easy targets for food. another idea is to have multiple abandoned human/dwarven cities, towns, ranches, or farms, in the world to have as nests.
