Jim Zub discusses how the tabletop games of his youth sparked his creativity and gave him confidence, crucial skills he uses every day in his twin careers as a comic writer and teacher. Find Jim Zub at: www.jimzub.com @jimzub on Twitter Jim Zub is a writer, artist and art instructor based in Toronto, Canada. Over the past eighteen years he’s worked for a diverse array of publishing, movie and video game clients including Marvel, DC Comics, Disney, Capcom, Hasbro, Cartoon Network, and Bandai-Namco.
He juggles his time between being a freelance comic writer and Program Coordinator for Seneca College‘s award-winning Animation program.
His current comic projects include Avengers: No Road Home, a weekly epic event for Marvel’s Mightiest Heroes, Champions, Marvel’s team of teen superheroes fighting for the future, Dungeons & Dragons, the official comic series of the world’s most popular tabletop role-playing game, and Wayward, a modern supernatural story about teens fighting Japanese mythological monsters. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Imagine what this speaker’s life would have become if evangelical parents had found his D&D stuff, told him having that game was inviting demonic forces into their home, and made him throw everything away and never play it again… that’s my life.
