Stick ball in the street, sneaking in to Yankee Stadium to watch my beloved Yankees play, walking from 169th St in the Bronx all the way to mid town Manhattan to go to the museums because I felt like doing it, going to the World Trade Center as kids, and getting in different elevators to see who would get to the observation deck first, Movies on Saturdays on Fordham Road, White Castle burgers for 20 cents each, Crotona Park, Pelham Bay Park, Van Cortlandt park, Claremont Park, Orchard Beach, City Island, Ice skating at the old Van Cortlandt Park rink...Man, it was great growing up in the Bronx, there was just as much good as the not so good. I hope the kids coming up today can enjoy life as I did, no matter what's going on around them, there's fun to be had!!!

Thanks. Lol, Poe Cottage was in the back yard of my bldg on Briggs ave. A buried stream ran down 194th St. You could hear the water rushing by from inside of the basement of the bldg my mother moved to (around the corner).

Amazing how looking at these pics take you back to your childhood days. I remember playing that street chalked numbered game "Hop Scotch" which was one of the girls and some boys enjoyed. Now the roller skates that you had to use a skate key to tighten was the best lol. When you wore down those skates, we use to remove the wheels. We would then find those wooden milk crates, attach them to the crate with nails, find a piece of wood, attach that and we had a scooter to roll down the street on. Oh, we would use soda tops and nail them to the front of the crate for a design. I guess we were the original Little Rascles of the Bronx :) At 69 years old this month, I could remember many things about growing up in the Bx. We didn't have much, but we were happy, respected and loved by our parents. Thanks Carlos for taking me down memory lane.

At 4:20, That is the White Castle that’s located on Fordham Rd and Lorillard Pl. Many may not recognize it because in this picture the White Castle is sitting right on the corner by the curb. That is no longer the case. They knocked down that restaurant and moved it in a little, and now there is parking for White Castle customers where the original White Castle restaurant once stood.

Man memories, born and raised. I lived across the street from Crotona park and pool on 173rd and 3rd down the block from bathgate ave which was thriving with a lot of stores in the 60'S and 70'S. Then the 3rd ave El came down from 149th st to Fordham rd in 1974 was a kid then and always outside playing everday thru snow and heat great times, simpler time and miss the block parties too.
@MsZine14 жыл бұрын
Wow we were nearly neighbors. I lived on 170 and Fulton Ave. Up the block was St. Paul's place and across the street was an entrance to Crotona Park. We use to go row boating on Indian Lack in the summer. They had concession stands where we would buy hot dogs and soda. In the winter when the lake froze, we would go ice skating on that lake. I learned how to swim at Crotona pool. Wow this really took me back to my childhood days growing up in that part of the Bronx.

I remember moving into Simpson Street between Westchester Avenue and 163rd Street and it was beautiful. That was 1960. By 1971, it looked like London after the blitz!!! Been living 90 minutes from London, England now since 1980 and when I show my friends here what it was when I left, they cannot believe that anyone got out alive! I know the Bronx had it's beautiful parts but I will always wonder why the South Bronx went and got so very bad :(
