Raised Train Operational in the LEGO City!

Today I finished installing the raised train track in the LEGO city! It took a ton of pieces and time but I'm delighted with the end results. However, there is still a bunch of work that has to be done to better integrate it such as a slight realignment, blending in the supports, and general cleanup. In addition to getting the raised line installed, I also created a bunch of train track MILS plates for the ground line!

If someone else hasn't already said it, but you should modify the train station to service the bottom and top lines in the middle of the city. Everything looks great, love all of your content and your enthusiam!!

Hopefully you’ve already seen this by now to fix but at 12:19 you can see the plates are misaligned and that’s why you have the issue on the other side of Eiffel Tower.

Regarding the baseplate misalignment for the Eiffel tower, it looks like you just didn't place the baseplates underneath correctly @12:11 you can see the gap by the loop coaster. Lift up the Eiffel and push those two over slightly and you're all good.

I really think you should build an elevated rail station where the train station used to be. That way, you still have a train station in the city, and it fits in with the new raised track. The main part of the train station would be underneath, and there would be stairs up to the waiting platform. That way, you're able to leave the train track the way it is, instead of it being a curve, and still have a train station right there
@walkingbrick4529
@walkingbrick4529 Жыл бұрын
A lot of train stations are surrounding the track itself, so another thing you could do is have the train track go straight through the train station there - that way you get the best of both worlds: no S curve and still a train station... Another option would be to switch the road and the green baseplate where the train station was, that way you can put the station to the side of the track and you would have one extra straight road plate to use elsewhere.

Where you removed the train station, you should do a 2 story building with like a coffee shop on the bottom (super popular for university students!) with a platform/station on top for the train line. That would look great! Also, I really need you to mount a camera to your trains and take us on a ride!!! 😂

For the raised train track: where the police station was, I think you should switch the green 32x32 baseplate with the road that's next to it. And put the train station there and have it service the raised train track right next to it as well
@BrickHQ
@BrickHQ Жыл бұрын
You could put a train platform not a full train station where the station was. Also there can still be a shorter station there for the lower track. The baseplate binder the Eiffel tower wasn't right next to the loop coaster baseplate I think that's why it was a stud off.

It's very easy to create that switch track that you were talking about. You just need to be willing to cut a left and right switch track and join them together. Their is plenty of tutorials to show you how to do this. To access your platform with a train station maybe you could use a elevator.😀👍

You could build or modify a smaller skyscraper by the university so the train goes underneath it. I live in British Columbia and we have a station like that. If you look up Main Street science world station for reference maybe something like that could be incorporated. Not sure if it would be too tall or not. Feel better soon and happy building! City looks amazing. In regards to the Eiffel Tower misalignment just move the grey base plate over one or two studs. Had a gap by the loop coaster

Longtime member and I never want to be critical because I love the city so much, but it seems like having the train supports run down the middle of the streets obscures the scenes that take place on the city streets. The many little scenes and stories the minifigures and vehicles all depict are a great part of your ever-changing city! The beams are in the way in the middle of the road and look a bit odd, but even if you did support beams to the side of the roads, the raised train track hides what is going on down below. Love that the city is always evolving, but as you say, it looks "sort of wonky".... Appreciate that you like the multiple rail lines, but this seems to overshadow all the other cool stuff on the city streets. Keep improvising, keep changing, something good will come out of it....good luck!!!!!

What if, for the station up on the back raised platform, you did a subway-like station? Bring the people down to the train, not the train up to the platform. Dunno how you might do that with the shelf and the ground train line running underneath, but it could be really cool!

I think I would put a one story high, L shaped commercial building there with maybe a small clothing shop, bakery, ice, cream shop, bicycle, repair shop, any other sort of small businesses. That’s right by the University, right? Maybe a dry cleaners, since there is a laundry across the street as part of the police station? There’s probably room for two or three small businesses at that corner. Wishing you and your family a speedy recovery from your sickness! 🙏

This is not my setup, so do whatever you want. Your "Raised train" is ruining everything you have worked so hard on in your layout. 1. a train now goes by lots of very pretty buildings that are now obscured or detracted by a raised Lego track that runs in front of them. 2. You won't use the lateral bracing for the tracks. So there are poles literally in the middle of your well-though out streets 3. You can no longer see the "stories" going on at sidewalk level on your layout, because there is a train track running down it. 4. That GIGANTIC wall facade you made in the back is now DESTROYED by a train track bisecting the wall and laying over the top of your wonderful existing train tunnel entrances. The track is now obscuring all that rock work and detail you added to that facade. 5. Unlike everything else you plan out for your layout. You are just forcing a train track into a layout, that you spend HOURS upon HOURS debating where to put things. You just laid an ugly raised train track right through the middle of it. 6. As I said above. Not my layout, but you have spent YEARS showing us videos of how much time you take to decide where to put stuff, and now we have a giant ugly raised train, that looks really bad in actual cities, in your Lego City.

I have two major suggestions for the raised train tracks, first the empty mills plate could serve as stairs to a elevated station platform. A set of two stairwells or escalators similar to the Washington, DC metro, might be the ticket for a central train hub on the straight line of track. In addition the grey retaining wall behind the main city, is the perfect area for a level train station. Of course it will require more flex rails and a second black bridge connection to bring the trains higher. Also the benefit of having the train tracks at same height, allows for long station that accommodate multiple rail cars.
@adamkehoe7405
@adamkehoe7405 Жыл бұрын
should have had the pillars holding the train track integrated either into the buildings, or on the paths. having them down the middle of the road looks too crowded in the lego city. (personally i'm not a fan of trains, so i wouldn't have them at all, but if you require them in the city, have an undeground / metro system with stations, that lead up to the surface & raise the lego city up about 10 studs high :P

The raised track is finally all connected! (Atleast the rough draft) And if you do decide not to put the train station back in, here's an idea: you could build a small restaurant or any store really its up to you to fill in that little space because I've seen similar things in New York and Chicago and I think it can add a nice piece of story telling.

For the offset of your plates u could use a razor blade and cut the extending 2 studs on the flat plates under your Eiffel Tower. It’s really easy to do with a razor blade. I hate destroying Lego but it kinda seems like ur only option. If you did this then the mills plates would hopefully line up if the flat plate was cut straight. It’s a bit rough of a idea but it could work 12:10
