Your birds are so lovely. The one you held seemed so calm and the others were tame too.

That is encouraging for me in Michigan, I have an unheated barn that has a great spot for them. We have seen -20 temps in the past, is that something to worry about? Also how do you keep your water from freezing?

You could drape plastic over the cage, it will keep humidity in. And snow out. They will be nice and cozy.
@hal7ter2 жыл бұрын
Humidity and dampness are not good. They need ventilation, protection from wind and drafts

Definitely excited to see someone in the same climate! Do you have any prefab Hutches your fond of or do you find it's better to just make your own with winter and the same wild animals being a concern in your state and mine?

Thanks. Interesting. I'm in FL my daughter and her hubby are in WI. They will be homesteading and will have lots of questions for me. Now I can help with some cold weather stuff. Or just send them to you. Both lol. I also might look like I know something about quail lol

What do you do for your watering system in the winter? Also….why do you do the apple cider vinegar spray on them? Do you just throw your other pen into the flock down below?😮 I always have to do an intermediary cage so it’s all neutral ground for both groups. 😂 I would love to learn your secret!

My neighbors are very close to me. Do you think the quail will bother them? I have chickens (hens) and they are "chatty."

My quail also did well during the recent snowstorm- I'm in western MA. Fortunately not a need to dig much of a path to them. Only 14 quail so far, though.

Newbie here-haven't gotten any yet, but why do you spray them with water and ACV mix?
@Ranchomartell2 жыл бұрын
Why do you spray cedar vinegar for ??
@NYCoturnix2 жыл бұрын
When adding new birds, it confuses everyone and keeps them all occupied graying to preen the smell off. They're too busy to attack each other

Thank you always learning something new

Great video :-) I will be getting quail eventually and preplanning my setup and your videos are very helpful. I just wanted to share that I add some splashes (maybe 1-2 tablespoons per gallon) of apple cider vinnegar to my outdoor animals water to help lower the freezing temperature, also helps with over all health and parasite control (has vitamin c in it) and makes the bunnies extra frisky, lol...puts the does in heat easier. Anyway I hope that helps; it works amazing for me. Works great for my chickens water too, and never have had to deworm them or ever use any chemical.

I just picked up 18 chicks on Christmas Eve.This will be my first attempt at raising quail. I will move them from the brooder to the garage at the end of January. Guess I don't have to worry about the cold.

We just started with quail out here in Thailand. I know how brutal the weather can be in Buffalo. With my first wife (who was from Tonawanda, living in VA) I went up to see friends in Toronto staying overnight. The weather was clear but cold in Toronto but as we approached Niagara Falls on the way back there were signs of snow. From Niagara Falls (NY) the snow deepened as we got closer to Buffalo. Since we left around 24 hours before there had been 24 inches of snow and we nearly didn't get back to Tonawanda. That year the Bills made it to The Superbowl............Go Bills!

Sometimes they pick on each other when there is the ratio out of wack, I have 1 male for 5 females and that is alright for my birds 😅
