Raising the first arch of our Quonset Hut

We learned a lot from raising the first arch of our Quonset Hut. It was some high anxiety, but we got through it!

I woulda at least tried assembling one of them and using that lift to bring it up in the air, but I like life on the wild side.

That's exactly how I've done it in the past, it's tricky, but you don't fight the assembly. The lift does all the work. I've put up six of these years back before you tube was a thing for me. I would have filmed the build.

Awesome! I just finished a Q-42 myself. Pro tip I used 3/8 diameter Phillips screwdrivers as drift pins. Works way better since you can go full depth.

Thanks! We actually ended up using a bench grinder and ground down our drift pins so we get a much easier fit.

I would have had the rope draped over the railing and back down to the ground so the help could pull and help you lift at the same time

How did you have your scissor jack you were on supported at the base? Were you concerned it might tip over? In retro spec would a crane to lift the 1st piece, at least, or maybe the 1st 2 pieces together to start the process been easier? Where does the water go that comes off the hut go? I haven't seen anyone address this issue.

Total no no using the scissor guard rails to support the arch.
