Totally disagree! Limited is the way to go! This is a *LUXURY* car, first and foremost. Although the refinement of the sound in the TRD is not bad at all (like the horrendous Highlander and RX 350, where it sounds like a Honda generator, or a vacuum cleaner), a luxury vehicle should be *DEAD* quiet and *ultra* smooth! I would go with the Avalon Limited all day every day! Sadly, Lexus doesn't cut it anymore in the Luxury department. The Avalon Limited is the most LUXURIOUS (in the TRUE sense of the word), soft riding, dead quiet vehicle Toyota/Lexus makes! The only change I would make to one, after buying it, is put slightly _HIGHER_ sidewall tires to make the ride even plusher! And give it a tad bit more GROUND CLEARANCE.

The TRD would definitely be my choice between those 2 trim levels. I actually think I like the Avalon TRD even better than the Camry TRD, especially the rear spoiler on the Avalon in comparison to the gaudy larger wing on the Camry. I also like the Avalon's interior styling better overall. I am sure in terms of handling though, the lighter Camry TRD handles far better. The overall value is greater in the Camry as well.

Next review should be a comparison of the XSE/Touring vs TRD pro 😎 pretty sure they may be the same just cosmetic and suspension differences.
@jjacob251015 жыл бұрын
If you are not familiar with how Toyota configures their trim levels, the Touring, like the Honda, or XLE is the top of the line luxury version, with all the options. The XSE is the top of the line Sport version, similar to the XLE with all the sport appearance and performance oriented parts. The TRD Avalon has the package added to the fully loaded XSE, with specific TRD seats, interior, badging, and body kit, lowered, tuned performance suspension, exhaust, 2 piston from disc brakes, and wider, lighter forged aluminum wheels. The TRD Camry is based on the SE, instead of the XSE to make it more affordable. The TRD addons are the same as the Avalon, with a Camry specific rear spoiler, and not as nice interior.
@jjacob251015 жыл бұрын
@Hamim Mahatab The Touring I believe is used more by Honda, but not sure if the Avalon has it. XLE is usually the top luxury version. If you are trying to make your own TRD clone, you need to start with the XSE, or you will have a sort, not sport tuned suspension and handling. And I am not sure if the TRD parts will be available. As far as fake copy parts, depending on the company, you get what you pay for. You might as will just get an Avalon XSE.
@jjacob251015 жыл бұрын
@Hamim Mahatab ORLY? When the Camy TRD is just coming out now? What parts are you talking about? From where, and who? Sorry, highly skeptical that they are just someone's cheaper quality renderings and may have various quality problems, unless from a well know reputable company. But it's your Camry. If your Camry is not an SE or XSE, you do not even have regular production sport tuned handling, brakes, and exhaust.
@jjacob251015 жыл бұрын
@Hamim Mahatab Oh, cool, if that's the deal. I wanted the Camry TRD, but on the other postage I said why I don't want it anymore. A nice loaded XSE would be fine for me, even the 4 cylinder. I've had fast cars before, but I rather have something pretty decent, but more reliable.
@jjacob251015 жыл бұрын
@Hamim Mahatab Yes. It's adequate, better fuel economy, and emissions, and a little better handling than the V6 because of being less nose heavy... the Honda Civic Si and my Buick 84 Grand National had about 200 HP and was fast enough for what I need. I rather have the handling and braking.

I bought the 2020 Avalon SE ...Hybrid 46 to 52 mpg averaging! I LOVE the car..Excellent performance. Excellent braking! Very smooth and very quiet, very responsive! A dream to drive! THE JBL sound system amazing! No cd player... I bought the beautiful midnight color. Terrible...... terrible orange peel on the paint...which I didn't notice UNTIL I got the car home...Dealership said it was "TYPICAL" of Avalons. Be aware the windshield wipers cannot be accessed to lift for cleaning windshield ( or ice removal in inclement weather) unless you open the hood! Terrible windshield wiper chattering..they've tried silicon.. new inserts..a clay bar..now the whole wiper assembly is next. I do like the sleek look of the recessed wipers however... C'mon not a good design on the windshield wipers...CHATTERING ... don't like the black spoiler...doesn't match my midnight paint...Sunroof has a gap on the retractable headliner...both sides! Poor workmanship. The car was made in Kentucky and some of it is not quality manufacturing. The leather seats are beautiful and they are comfortable! Not ventilated seats..not red on my mats.. no seat memory. Cheap key fob.. No Android Auto...only Apple play.

I love the Avalon TRD, and would get it if I had the money, though it is bigger than I normally would want for another car. The grille is no problem for me, I like it, and with the front license plate mount, it will not seem so out there. The Limited is no co.psrison, unless you like old style bling, luxury, and comfort. Lol Catfish was exactly what I was trying to say about the grille. It is a real catfish to trap you, but you get something great, not a scam. It's the real thing. It's perfect for a TRD version. The Camry, too, with the caveat of the things I don't like that I mentioned. The Avalon pulled out all the stops, added on top of the XSE trim. The Camry was I generously based on the SE trim to make it affordable for those that really want it. I don't know everything the Camry TRD is missing from the XSE, but if it has the JBL sound system available, it's great. I just rather have the XSE, even a 4 cylinder to save gas, less emissions, and slightly better handling than the V6, and save a few grand. For those that want more horsepower, it would add much more money, and decrease reliability, durability, and longevity. But as I mentioned before, it would ideal if Toyota offered a TRD Stage 1/2 OEM aftermarket hop up kit. A mild hop up, and maybe a more aggressive supercharger kit. They should also offer the TRD exhaust, wheels/tires, brakes, and basic suspension parts for the Avalon XSE, and Camry SE/XSE. I think the SE or XSE without the V6 could benefit from the wheels and suspension, but the exhaust and brakes would be not be necessary. The interior of the Camry was a compromise to keep the cost down. The seats stripe pattern remind me of characters from the Wizard of Oz. The Avalon TRD interior is fine, ventilated seats would be nice, but I would deal with it is the A/C is good. Memory seats, dual zone A/C, and stuff like power adjust seats on more affordable cars like the Honda Civic Sport Sedan are fine with me. My 1984 Buick GN had a beautiful interior as opposed to the 1984-87, even the GNX budget seats sn ugly color combination. The 84 GN has Lear Siegler that resembled Recaro seats with many adjustments and good bolsters, dark grey leather centers with sand grey diamond pattern tufted velour, and the red and yellow embroidered Turbo 6 logo on the upper seat back, instead of in the headrest looks way better than the later ugly GN seats. The GN and Turbo 6 badges were probably some of the nicest car badges ever, along with the nice ones from the exotic car brands. Once again, great video, and I agree with most of your points you brought up.

Looks like you are little excited with the TRD pro after driving it; compared to your earlier auto show video where you looked less impressive when u got to know about the same horsepower. Thanks for this video, I own 2019 Avalon Limited and I am thinking should I look at the Avalon 2020 TRD 🧐

Joe why do Floridians still love pinstriping brand new cars!! Made sense in the past when there were very few body lines but it is awkward to see them now..

Why do today's cars lower their roofs? What's good about them? I always enjoy your reviews thank you!

Make the fender flares smooth on transition too. It could be the ultimate. Maybe at least 400hp 325lbs t

Obviously, Toyota is striving to lower the average age of Avalon buyers. I'm skeptical it will work but at the very least they may capture those who believe that sixty is the new forty. :) As for "souping up" (That's the term we seniors once used) the Avalon TRD, Toyota didn't become the largest automotive brand in the world by appealing to self-proclaimed automotive "enthusiasts." They won't do ANYTHING that might risk their reputation for reliability and durability even if it's a minor risk. Adding a turbocharger, for example. No way, Jose. As far as the TRD is concerned, it appears this is an "engineering" exercise done by the marketing department. Other than some trim pieces and TRD badging on various accessories (almost all of which can be added to the non-TRD XSE) and larger brakes, there is apparently no difference, whatsoever, between the XSE and the TRD. In fact, one puzzling feature of the XSE not available on the TRD is "sports tuned suspension." I suspect that's because the TRD has the same suspension as the XSE but they simply fail to mention it. Oh, yeah...There is one other difference and it's a big one. The MSRP including delivery for the TRD is $45,336. The XSE (with available TRD labeled accessories) is $41,015. Let's be frank. The TRD is a sucker deal meant to appeal to those with late onset mid-life crisis issues.

Thanks Stephen for your well throughout perspective and input. It is great to have people like yourself here contributing!

The XSE sport tuned suspension is the regular production sport suspension. The TRD package has badging and nicer seats, exhaust, and a much highbprrfirmance upgraded suspension, exhaust, that may improve throttle response and sound, and forged wheels that are 3 lbs lighter, that makes a difference in performance. The Camry has the same upgrades, but based on an SE trim to be affordable. That's why the extra price for those thatvl want it. And you are so right about the reliability, durability and longevity of the normally aspirated engine, though an aftermarket TRD factory Stage 1/2 package could be made, since so many people seem to be willing to spend more fir the power. More so for the Camry.

Geez does anyone here know anything about aftermarket parts? I truly do not understand why people complain about 301hp on the trd when you have options to put a supercharger or turbocharger on your engine & net at least 40% hp. Or if you don't want to void your warranty by doing that then put a cold air intake on it. Sure that'll only add anywhere between 7-50 hp but it won't void your warranty & u get more hp & better fuel efficiency. All at a lower cost than what Toyota would've passed down to the consumer had they added more hp or awd. My god.
