Mazda: a car manufacturer that brings the quality at a (usually) reasonable price.
@jdarms274 ай бұрын
I have one of these and I like it just fine. I have owned many cars including German sports sedans, sporty coupes, and a track project MX5. Now I'm just looking for utility, reliability, some quickness when needed, and light off road capability. The CX30 turbo manages to tick these boxes. Personally I would avoid the non-turbo. My dealership experiences have been pretty good; Mazda is trying to do the near luxury thing. I think they've reached a nice middle ground. The gas tank is my biggest problem; plan to refill frequently. The cladding was a big drawback, it works fine when I'm scrambling down a graded gravel road to get to a put in or trail head - you hear those "pops" when rocks are hitting and shrug it off. With just two people you can get all your gear in the back (seats down) and whatever bikes/kayaks/snowboards/Thule box up on the cross bars. You can easily install the cross bars yourself...that should go without saying. The rear suspension is basic. There is hardly any room in back for normal sized people. I drive around with the rear seats down pretty much permanently. If I had a family, forget it. My "big dude" friends don't fit really well in the front either...think 6'2" 240 and up. In daily traffic the turbo version is sneaky quick and catches a lot of people by surprise - especially full-sized trucks who take it personally when some little subcompact squeezes them out on a merge or beats them off the line. Relax bro. Stop compensating. You chose to drive all that mass - own it. The gas mileage is pretty trash, ngl. You have to really stay off the throttle to keep things near the stated mpg and even then... "It's just a Mazda" so I can easily rationalize beating the crap out of it unlike a more "luxury" brand. I cross shopped the Crosstrek which was gutless but still cool. If Subaru made a WRX wagon still that would be a killer comparison. If I had to choose a car I probably most often think "what if" about instead of the CX-30 turbo, it would be the CX-50 turbo. IMO Mazda interiors are superior. The Mazda "cleans up nice" during my professional week if I have a co-worker on board, but does the outdoor stuff acceptably well too. Great review as usual. As an east coast transplant on the west coast for nearly 40 years, I always enjoy your east coast, "call it like you see it" candor Mr. Raiti. Nutter Butters for the win.

I just bought one! I do like the black trim on the outside. My only real complaint is where the front cupholders are. Too close to the dash, can't fit my large water mug! And the manual passenger seat. For the money, it should have come with both front seats with electric adjustments! Otherwise, it's been a fun car!

Mazda cx30 is different and has options. I've been driving a mazda 3 since 2012. The driving experience has always been fun. I went with the cx30 because I live in a snow state and the extra ground clearance and off road mode made sense. I love my mazda and look forward to hopefully another 10+ years of ownership

The huge cladding around the wheel wells and door bottoms and bumpers all looks cheap and is a (Monster Zonk) , might be ok for the base trim or off road version but the top trim it should be body colored metal. Super miss on the cladding. Everything else (engine pwr and mpg's and handling and interior seem nice).
@Unchainedmaple8884 ай бұрын
You say that, but actually the cladding covers most of the spots that get the most rock chips. I have a GR86 right now and it's just absolutely covered in damn rock chips so this cladding actually isn't that bad imo. Used to absolutely hate it too but it makes a lot of sense. Less damage during the winter too

I must say I had a 2024 CX30 and a BMW X1 xDrive28i (twin Turbo 4cy) for about a month as loaner vehicles while my truck and car were in the shop. I was impressed with the CX30, it was definitely peppy. Was fairly quite in road noise and drove pretty well. I wish the infotainment system had a little more bells and whistles to it and was bigger. The one I had was the Deep Crystal Blue Mica with Black Leather. Overall I really like it for single person, high school/college student. the back seat was okay. I really liked the X1, the infortament was really nice with the big screen across the drives dash. Plus all the options in it and different display options, heads up display, ambient lighting, ect... The back seats were comfortable for adults. it drove awesome and was quite on the road. I drove it a little more than I did the Mazda just because it had more room. Both front, back and storage. The color I had was the Cape York Green with Oyster Perforated interior. Overall I would say the Mazda is nice and I would not hesitate to buy one if i was in the market for one.

I actually prefer the dial for the infotainment as opposed to touch screen. My CX5 lease is up in November and the CX30 has major blind spots also there is a quality issue with the CX30s final assembly in Mexico. I buy Japanese I want it built in Japan.
@bwelmhouse14 ай бұрын
Blinds spots? Your mirrors aren't adjusted properly if you've got major blind spots. Also, it's a myth that Mexico assembled Mazdas are inferior to the Japan built ones. I wish people would quit spreading that dumb myth. Mazda CEOs went to the Mexico factory to make sure that the quality of the units coming out of that factory are the same as the ones coming out of the factory in Japan. I have two Mazdas from the Mexico factory that don't have any more issues than people who have Japan built ones.

Thanks for this review! I've been eying the CX-30 Turbo for some time now. The Crosstrek is gutless and has a CVT, and the Outback XT is more car than I need. I need ground clearance and AWD for my commute. No other non-luxury subcompact out there does what the CX-30 does. I do a lot of tight city driving and driving through the out-of-control construction in Utah. I wish this vehicle had better visibility and more comfortable headrests, but there is nothing out there that checks my boxes quite like the CX-30 Turbo.

I had a ‘22 Mazda CX-5 Turbo Signature and the transmission was really jerky and rough. It’s a problem Mazda has across their whole lineup. The seats were really uncomfortable too, and the turbo lag was pretty bad.
