Vidushis Ranjani & Gayatri presented a novel concert at The Music Academy in Chennai on June 5, 2022. They sang Maestro Ilaiyraaja's songs in the traditional Carnatic concert style and regaled audience with the brilliance of Raja Sir's compositions. This is a review/recap video of that concert by Priya Parthasarathy.

முன்பெல்லாம் தூய கர்னாடக இசை கலைஞர்கள், திரையிசை பாடல்கள் பாடுவதை அவமானமாக கருதினார்கள். இன்று திரையிசை பாடல்களைக்கொண்டு, தூய கர்னாடக இசை ராகங்களை அடையாளம் காணப்படுகிறது. இசையின் மகத்துவம் என்பது அந்த இசை எத்தனை பேர் மனங்களை ஆட்கொள்கிறது என்பதை பொருத்தெ அமைகிறது. இந்த மாற்றத்தை உருவாக்கிய இளையராஜா ஒரு மாமனிதர்தான்.

Many thanks to Mrs.Priya Parthasarathy for giving us a glimpse of the Concert program Raaja by Raga. A similar lecdem program was done by Dr.M.Balamurali Krishna with Sri. Ilaiyaraaja about Tamil Film songs by Raaja, on stage at Vanimahal, T.Nagar many years back, in the presence of music critic Mr.Subbudu. If i may quote from the Indian Expresss review of the same, it reads " I was all along thinking that Mr.V.S.Narasimhan is the carnatic brain behing Mr.Ilaiyaraaja, today I stand corrected. ..........His (Mr.Ilaiyaraaja's) fingers were literally flying on the Yamaha keyboards........" On a side note it is disappointing , that some of IRs brilliant composition in raaga Simmendramadhyamam, Shanmugapriya, Revathi, Sindhubhairavi, madhuvanthi , Keeravani, Mayamalava gowla and Charukesi did not find place in the concert. Just my thoughts.

Very good researched creative in the nature of immortalizing the divinely gifted works of Raja sir the great Isai gnani, by Ranjani and Gayatri. A red letter day to mark the historical occasion of presentation of Pannaipuram verse of music on the exalted musical dais of Mylapore from being '' Paadariyen padippariyen to....... mari mari ninne ''. Great contribution to the great TAMIL culture. God bless these two young artists and their troupe members.
