‘Guṇa’ is a very familiar word from the Sanskrit language which is understood in its non-technical sense by nearly every lay person in India. However, the word guṇa also denotes different technical meanings in various branches of Indian philosophy. The word guṇa is often quickly translated into English as ‘mode’ or ‘quality’ irrespective of the context and without giving much thought into its real deeper significance. Thus, the three guṇa-s of prakriti in the sankhya philosophy are rendered into English as three ‘modes’ or ‘qualities’ of prakriti. In this video Babaji and Rajiv take a closer look at the concept of guṇa and some of its technical and non-technical senses in the Sanskrit literature. This will help us to better appreciate its distinctiveness from the English words like ‘mode’ or ‘quality’.

Seems like Guna itself is a combination. So they too are representative only. You / person seems to Define them even...When you involve, it get pregnant & delivers...meaning (Mean / Mediocre). Guna as such seems to convey "Information" (with you in it) and formation (without you in it) - Guna & Gana. Like vowel & consonant???
