We at Infinity Foundation are deeply grieved at Vrinda's passing away and we dedicate this series as a homage to her memory and love for our Bharatiya sanskriti. Noted Carnatic Vocalist Vidushi K. Vrinda Acharya explains the significance of Non-translatable terms related to (South) Indian Music or Carnatic Music. She elaborates on the wisdom and intensity of these technical terms, how they are integrated with the ethos of Sanatana Dharma and why it is not okay to replace them with simplistic English translations. She also observes that retaining the original terms as non-translatables is very essential to prevent the digestion of Carnatic music into World music. Watch more on the Non-translatables of (South) Indian Music here: bit.ly/NontranslatablesofSouth...

Vrinda's knowledge of Carnatic music and her explanation are excellent. What saddens me,however, is that in this modern era Carnatic music is misrepresented by music artists who ignore the deep religious significance of Carnatic music, for the sake of profit. This has to be stopped because,as Vrinda has stated, 'Carnatic music will become extinct. Globalism is destroying humanity. Western values must be purged. India's civilization is the envy of the rest of the world and must remain stronger than ever.

Simply great talk. Carnatic music listening is an experience -- Any experience can not be documented totally .. One has to undergo that experience only .. Some of the Raagas literally bring tears due to profound touching of our consciousness .. There are great musical scholars so far kept alive Carnatic music . We are simply of eternal student of Carnatic music till our last day .. Most of the TYAGARAJA Kritis are on BHAGWAN SRI RAM and BHAKTI is core of it. All NAVA RASAs are involved in Carnatic Music .. Talk on this topic is doing divine service -- Thanks a lot

I once attended a Carnatic concert at the Indian International Centre; the experience of the divine was palpable. The audience began to leave at the end, but the Guruji remained motionless as if he was in a samadhi for some time afterwards. I also remained seated as I watched him. I felt blessed.

OM Shanthi to our beloved Carnatic Vocalist Vidushi K. Vrinda Acharya , English is a language with out any essence to express inner self , Most Carnatic Musician should use the words of Carnatic music as it is to prevent Carnatic music from getting contaminated. With AI we should make all our Bhartiya language & its culture regain the lost glory & make Bharath sarkar implement mother tongue as medium of Instruction.

I was sitting on teh floor in front of the TV to watch GEETHOPADESHAM which came in 8 episode -- Remarkable -- Our KArnataka CM was promoting that Serial . It was run away success

Tanpura accompaniment is one such untranslatable term. It is NOT a DRONE. A DRONE puts us to sleep. Tanpura does not create an ostinato chord. These are all misleading translations. It is not playing just 4 notes -- it is actually creating many harmonics by playing Sa Pa and Sa in two stthaayi-s after extremely careful, shall we say, almost YOgic tuning. Great musicians have testified that they could hear 13 tones form the Tanpura. The Tanpura should NOT be translated as the DRONE! A Tanpura is an instrument of creating avadhAna -- super- attentiveness. In both the singer or player and the listener. Tanpure is an instrument of creating a change of avastthA in our listening -- the hearing ears and the understanding mind and the differentiating buddhi and the unitarily experiencing Atman.

One life concept -- made KAALA CHAKRA to KAALA REkHA .. One born as Sinner , then afrer physical death , his soul is kept in waiting for Judgement day - That is why we call REST IN PEACE ( RIP ) till that time -- On the day of judgement GOD will come and decide who should go to heaven and hell .. The concept of KARMA YOGA is not there in ABRAHAMIC religion art all .. Hence these confusion

Why it WAS nontranslatable? India lost everything like the SouthAmerican pre-Maya mysteries. Now please do NOT make your own interpretations. "Sanskrit" was an Indian, but not a language. Sanskrit Was a "PEACE agreement between two oldest cultures, the Subcontinent's one and Darius-Assyrian one (now called Persia or Iran).

I don’t agree with this idea. Two well versed sources living in USA telling us what music should be -not allowed to be translated or imitated. I say transcending the worldly limitations to feel one with the devine may be the idea of Thyagaraja or Dikshitar. One has a way of experiencing anything the way they can rather than a learned way. One has to totally not exit when they feel one with god or another way is becoming the words, Raga, Beat, sound all and feel the non-separateness is Bhakti yoga. There is no gender, race, religion or country or language involved in this rendition. Only a few musicians get lost totally like this. That is why the same song song, same tune, changes with each persons rendition. Making rules while they themselves live and speak in a foreign young is due to economics and brainwashed existence, etc. To become another White Supremacists ideology is not what Santayana Dharma is all about. The word Santayana speaks for itself. It means historical ideology. So in this present day it doesn’t exist even in India. Only a few true immersers or those who got there by their own efforts know this. Someone like Ramana Maharishi, Nisargadutta Maharaj , Neam Karoli Baba, etc. If the ultimate truth of Dharma is realized through Silence there is no need to define or condemn or prescribe how it should be enjoyed. It is an individual choice nothing more.

90% of Karnatic music audiences outside India are South Indians. Karnatic music does not attract even North Indians Including Marathis. I have empirically observed it in the US and after that talking to musicians who have performed worldwide. In most lyrics, namami, rakshamaam, bhaje’ham, are often heard, indicating seeking divine intervention and help for saving the singer. Kollengode S Venkataraman

Great JOHN HIKIMs stayed in PALGHAT studied Music under GURU CHAMBAI VAIDYANATHA BHAGWATAr and Perfoemed well -- Many French learnt Carnatic music and perfomed KACHERI .. It is the rigorous training which is required to become accomplished artist which comes naturally to TAMBRAMs since it is there in their family .. KADRI GOPALANATH who is not TAMBRAM from my place KADRI ( heart of MAngalore city ) .. also got that skill from his family -- Their family was musical family -- His Brother RAMESHNATH performs even today .. Hence it is not barred . Mysore WoDEYAR naturtured Carnatic Music -- King Swati Tirunal natured Carnatic music .. There is no traction from North Indian to pick up Carnatic music and hence they are not in forefront .. BUT great aeticts such as PANDIT VISHWA MOHAN BHAT of MOHAN VEENA has perfomed many JUGAL BANDIs with Carnatic musicians world over
